IKE GOES THROUGH NEW ALBANY

Ike is gone but the devastation remains. We finally had our power restored late yesterday afternoon after losing all of the food in our refrigerator and much of our freezer. I know this is a small loss compared to what other residents lost.

My niece and nephew, who live in Sellersburg, told me yesterday that their power may be off until Friday, they said Sellersburg is like a ghost town. And tragically a woman and baby were killed when a tree fell on their car.

My church's steeple was damaged by the wind shortly after we left Sunday. Thank God no one was there, I heard the bell crashed through the roof.

I don't know if this is a fact but I heard that Indiana-American Water wants the power to be turned off again for a time so all of the energy will be diverted to their plant so the water can be purified. If anyone has more information on this please comment. Hopefully if this happens it will be on a schedule and we the residents will be notified so we can prepare.

But through is all, I want to thank all of the street department employees for their quick removal of trees and limbs and the Duke Energy employees who worked so hard to restore our power.

I will leave this open for further comments from any readers who wish to post.

Shirley

Thank goodness that we have a strong leader like Doug to see us through this chaos.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING, RIGHT?

Actually, yes. I was kidding. Had you going there for a minute, didn't I?

despite the damages on our block, we actually had fun after the last wind had blown. No power, no chance for power, and no one feeling like cleaning up, we had one huge power outage block party. Grills everywhere cooking up the food we all expected to go bad, this went on until late.
Next morning we all chipped in, and got our block cleaned up.
Power was restored about 4pm monday, though there are still pockets in our area with out power this morning....but extension cords have been run to give a little electric to those still with out it.

We went out and bought heavy duty extension cords for the folks across our street who did not have power. We even went and gave land line phones to all of our neighbors so those with cordless phones could stay in touch with family members and 911. They didn't have power until yesterday.
Neighbors helping neighbors is what this is all about. The hell with local government.

IMPEACH ENGLAND! HE WENT ON TV AND SAID WE WILL SPEND WHAT EVER IT COST TO CLEAN UP OUR CITY. THEN THE NEXT THING I GET BY EMAIL IS A PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR LOCAL ADMINISTRATION. WHERE IS OUR TAX DOLLARS AND WHAT ARE THEY SPENDING OUR MONEY ON?

For once in your life stop being so selfish. Does your neighbor need help? Who is your neighbor? We considered our neighbors to be anyone we know that has a need. If we can not help them directly we try to find someone who can. I would concede, as I do not have access to a television; just some brief internet at work.do

HELLO!!!???
This was a weather disaster on a scale not seen in this city since at least 1974, and even then it was rather localized.
We can rely on, nor expect, our tiny local government to wave some kind of magic wand and make it all magically disappear.
WE are the Community, they are the elected leaders. WE are the ones who need to get out into OUR OWN neighborhoods and help our neighbors clean up, to make repairs, to feed our neighbors, to help in a time of need.
If you do not feel this is an issue where it is the communities responsibility to heal itself and use the tools the government can offer, then I am afraid no actions taken by anyone would considered good enough.

Damn that England.

We are still without power. I use the computer at work to keep up with what is going on. Although we don't have power yet and have been without it since Sunday at 12:30, my family understands Duke Electric is working as fast as they can to get everyone restored. We are grateful for our neighbors on Country Club Drive and our family we have that are helping us as much as they can. I am humbled by the experience. Our Country Club Drive neighbors all got together outside and we talked until the wee hours in the morning. We shared batteries, candles and good stories. We should all give thanks.

christopher d,

To clarify about being responsible for ourselves and neighbors we cannot wait for someone else to do their job. Local municipalities to participate in the cleanup that would more than likely been individuals/contractirs. This is what we pay taxes for.

christopher d., Yes, we do have to be responsiblt for ourselves and helping out others when possible. However, local government must respond quickly and appropriately as well. Unfortunately, some of the local elected officials areound my neck of the woods aren't doing nothing including England. He was lip service before and is nothing but lip service again.

Throw that bast**d outta office.

Citizens need to view this as a wake up call that our local elected officials are not responsible for us-we are responsible for ourselves. Everyone should use this as a gauge as to their ability to cope with any disaster, Duke Electric is doing a great job but they are few and we are many. We have no leadership in New Albany. Accept it or change it.

WAKE UP NEW ALBANY WE GOT THREE YEARS AND THREE MONTHS LEFT OF ENGLAND'S CRAP.

No damage to our house, tired of buying ice an eating out. Live on New Albany and we just want power.

Clean up efforts could be going more smoothly, given the situation, the power crews are doing the best they can. My biggest complaint right now is the lack of traffic control. There are police personnel SITTING in their cruisers at very busy intersections-get out of the cars we pay for and DIRECT the traffic instead of waiting for an accident!!!!

See why they need to be riding bicycles and parking (our) police cars.

Do you all think you could complain any more?
*Blame the Doug cause we got hit with hurricane winds...
*Blame the police because jackasses wont treat an interesection with out power like a 4 way stop...
*Blame the street department because they havent picked up the branches in your yard yet (Gd forbid you take it yourself to a drop off site)...
* Blame other neighborhoods because their power is on, but yours is not on yet...
* Heres a thought, blame yourself because you wont get off your lazy butts to do something about it

CRY US A RIVER 5:33 WE BET YOU MAKE A HELL OF ALOT MORE MONEY THEN WE DO. ENGLAND TALKS OUT BOTH SIDES OF HIS MOUTH.

Yeah, I am loaded, billions of dollars. Hell I am so rich I use $100 bills for toilet paper.
I just choose to live in a $50,000 house, drive a 16 year old used car with 150,000 miles on it to hide my wealth...
And because of all the money I have, the storm blew right over my house, and divine intervention kept the winds at a gentle summer breeze while I sipped country time lemonaide out of cut crystal tumblers watch the devastation to all the poor people around me...

YOU MUST BE A PROGRESSIVE. STOP YOUR BRAGGING.

My assessment of England's intelligence has plummeted. Does Indiana have a re-call law?

Poor Dougie, I hope his cool suit doesn't get too greasy under that bus.

Why is it costing taxpayers $500,000 to clean up after Ike?

Anonymous said...

6 chainsaws should come out of the Street Departments budget. Why arew we buyong equipment for other companies? Something smells and it's not the spoiled food I removed from my frig either.

prime examples of no matter what is done its not good enough...
complaints because nothing was being done fast enough, comlpaints now that it costs money to pay the city employees to do the work that previously was being complained about for not being done...

Why are we paying a Mayor when all that we see and hear is DEPUTY MAYOR CARL MALYSZ ?

If it is true that England set up the
$85,000 salary to pay Malysz so that the Mayor could sit back and relax and vacation.
