No this is not a crack at the Mayor. I think it is a great idea that the city wants to unload these properties that cannot be used.
I do hope that restrictions are placed on the sale so the buildings will keep their integrity under new ownership.
Any thoughts?

i'D LIKE TO KNOW WHY HE BOUGHT IT TO START WITH? IT SOUNDS LIKE TO ME HE'S HARD UP FOR MONEY.
Maybe Doug could get a low interest loan form the boat, like he did for Baylor.
ooops a typo "from" the boat.
The taberbacle, while a nice historic building, is not worth the investment needed to turn it into a viable governmental center.
The Conways have/ or had an antique fire museum on Mt. Tabor, and I never really saw enough of a crown to justify the expenditure or renovation.
We all ready turned a profit on the insurance settlement, so try and turn more profit and sell it!
But a solid plan needs to be in place for any money gained that will benefit the entire community.
I WISH the City would inspect Buildings BEFORE they purchase them. The new firehouse was built on a "historical" sight, but the walls fell down before any work could be done. We buy a building, possible for a new "city" place and the roof comes off. Hoosier Paneling is contaminated. The list goes on and on. Can or Will anyone state why? Thanks.
Maybe the city has learned it's lesson and is trying to get rid of property that can't be used in order to purchase property that can be used for a new City-County Building.
Shirley, as Brandon Smith pointed out over on NAC, both buildings are in historic districts so guidelines are indeed in place!!
PEOPLE--- WAKE UP !

Thank you for bringing it all into perspective. We do need to pass off these unsafe buildings and concentrate on more important things. We do need to look after our people.
I say we rebuild the old post office and tear it down again because, you know, everyone agrees that tearing down that “old building” that was such a great thing.
1:02, I fully agree. It's time to call for an full investigation on behalf of New Albany taxpayers. I suggest New Albany sell all their properties and get us back in the black.
If I thought destroying these buildings in any way would help end poverty or help low income people with medical or other issues, I would light the first stick of dynamite. However, the two issues are hardly related. It has not yet been established that overseeing the rehabilitation of the buildings would cost the city a dime. We need to think things through before creating a few more vacant lots downtown.
The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council all love to cut the ribbons on their
big expensive pet projects.
How many of these people have you seen serving food or helping at a local soup kitchen to help the hungry and starving people in our area?
Yes-- I can now hear their response--
"Oh-- do we have hungry people in New Albany "?

I don't know Anonymous, did I see you at the soup kitchen last week?
Be glad you don't live in Georgetown, they want to start charging them $100 monthly sewer bill. Guess where all next.
- Is "CFA" okay with a McCartin voting for her brother's gigs?
- Is "CFA" okay with not following constitutionally required redistricting?
If the answer to either question is "yes," then why is "CFA" selective in its requests for accountability?
Maybe this time he/she/it will see it and give an answer.
YOUR AN IDIOT!
Do you believe CFA has to answer your questions?
"NOT!"
I was very pleased to see the recent television covereage of developments in downtown New Albany. Looks like a lot of things are taking off!
go over to NA Confidential to watch the video. it is great!
A few things Mayor England has forgotten.
1. EPA
2. Who is going to pay for the additional infrastructure
3. Why build a new City Hall, when there are several vacant buildings even cheaper than $20 million Phase 1
If you believe all this is going to happen, it's a typical "DOUGIE" pipe dream
Think about it:
$1 million - 10 new police officers
$200 - for 8 new police cars
$2 - million paving
$40 - million development
$20 - million City Hall
Then think about:
Increase sewer bills
Increase stormwater bill
Increase sanitation service
39% increase in Water bill
More tax abatements given
This all sounds well and good but England and others are spending OUR money.
Final question:
"What's in it for Mayor Doug England?"
ooops, $200,000 for 8 police cars.
4:40,
ROTFLMAO
As for the $40 million development figure, please tell us how that is a government expenditure. If you’re talking about the New Horizons development, the Mayor has yet to request a single cent for that and I don’t know that he ever will. It’s a private development.
Also, $20 is for the whole freaking phase one, not the city’s portion. The $20 million figure includes city, plus county, plus a lot of retail and office space. The city’s portion is only a tiny fraction of that figure. First, stop lying about the numbers. No one is fooled.
Second, do you oppose private investment in our community? Do you oppose the jobs that investment creates? Do you oppose the additional property tax revenues that investment will generate?
Even if police cars could be had for a mere $200, I'm sure Anon 4:40 would oppose it. He/she/it never saw a government cost that he/she/it didn't think was evidence of gross negligence and corruption.
I hope the west end development takes off. I want to be able to drive to a grocery store that’s close by instead of driving to State St. or Charlestown Rd. I want my property to appreciate in value because it’s in vibrant and healthy neighborhood.
If you have REAL evidence that there's something in it for England, something other than the pride of being Mayor of an improving city, then show us your proof.
Put up or shut up!
"KICKBACKS" ROSENBARGER AND OTHERS, WILL NOT GIVE UP THE CARRY OVER EDIT MONEY WITHOUT A FIGHT. BESIDES THAT, THEY NEED THAT MONEY ($5 MILLION) FOR THE $40 MILLION DOLLARS PROJECT.
I SMELL A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE, HOW ABOUT YOU OTHER BLOGGERS?
The stupid morons who demanded changes to the property tax structure are a big part of the reason we are in the fiscal shape we are in now.
Amen 8:16 AM.
So Rosenbarger's taking kickbacks?
What's the proof of that?
6:59 Are you new to the area? Of course England is corrupt. Prove us wrong and we all will shut up. But you can't. Like olde Dougie has pride in New Albany. Give me a break, who do you think your kidding? Of course he gets kick backs. What part of the country did you move from?
Dear factless Anon 7:36 PM.
I have lived here my whole life.
You alleged that England and Rosenbarger were corrupt and taking kickbacks.
Prove it! You made the allegation. You must have had some reason to make that allegation. Tell us what that reason was.
Is it because you are jealous? Is it because want to unjustly score political points? Is it because you are clinically insane? It is because you cannot to simple math and think a deficit automatically means corruption?
People have been asking you for over a month on this site to give REAL EVIDENCE of corruption. So far your response has been "...of course they're corrupt." That's your evidence? I don't think that would hold up in court or the court of public opinion.
