ONE BIG STEP FOR HEALTH CARE

Single Payer will come to the House for a vote. Speaker Pelosi has promised that HR676 will come before the entire House of Representatives.

This happened because of all of the hard work of so many people. But we must keep up the good work.

The Washington trip was considered a success by everyone I talked to. There was a rally where Rep.Conyers and several others spoke out for Single Payer.

Our group also split into the Indiana delegation and Kentucky delegation. The Indiana people met with representatives of Senators Lugar and Bayh. Neither of our senators are in the health care committees so their influence is limited but their representatives were very gracious and listened to our concerns. Others in the Indiana group met with Rep. Baron Hill. Three members arrived early and were able to speak with Mr. Hill personally and the rest met with his representative. They reported that Mr. Hill was also very gracious and met with them for several minutes before being called into a meeting.

The Kentucky group also reported success. They met with their Representatives also. The most entertaining part was when several of us went to Senator Mitch O'Connell's office. The Kentuckians had a petition with over 7,000 signatures all taped together. It was quite a sight, they even had a couple of police officers in the hallway. But his representatives were also very gracious and even allowed themselves to be photographed with the petitions.

All in all in was a fun and educational trip.

Jim Bunning's retirement is a victory for America. McConnell's departure would be even better.

Sounds like a great trip. I agree with The New Albanian. It's been a long time coming for both of those Pubs, lol!

Baron Hill will and would say anything anyone wants to hear. He must of took a page from England's playbook.

We are in need of a health care reform, but not one that will limit our health services, we need to go in the other direction.
Have we not spent enough with our taxes for research? Have we not paid our dues? The older people have worked their entire lives for this country to be better then any other.
Why in the world would we go backwards on our healthcare, stop giving our money to North Korea, other rogue counties, and add more money into the treatment of our elderly.
The reform of healtcare needs to focus on why insurance companies make billions of dollars on us, not why it took a lot of money to save a guys life from a heart attack.
Apparently Shirley, your not on the front lines of healthcare.

The country does not want Obamacare. Why do Democrats keep working on imposing it to people? Drop the bill and start over--hauling with tort reform.

It is obvious, you haven't read the bill either. You won't like it so much if you learn what you are supporting. Nothing comes from the Government, other than regualtions.

It is easy for you Shirley to tell someone else to move aside and die, that is exactly what it says. But YOU FIRST!

YES, WE NEED HEALTHCARE REFORM. BUT TODAY? THIS MINUTE? COULD SOMEONE FIRST ROOT OUT THE PROBLEMS IN HEALTHCARE BEFORE THEY START WRITING BILLS TO CORRECT THEM. THEN EXPLAIN TO US AMERICAN PEOPLE HOW WE CAN PAY FOR IT? IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK OUR SO CALLED "REPRESENTATOVES", OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER SNOW JOB BY THE POWERS THAT BE TO RESTRUCTURE THE CONSTITUTION SO WE BECOME A SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT?

I WANNA KNOW, DO YOU?

Dear Anon 8:15 & 8:56 I don't want an immediate change either if is not the right bill. I want everyone to have equal access to health care, Medicare for all would be ideal.

And I never said I was on the front lines either. Yes, I do work in the industry but I don't write the bills.

Finally, I do not wish anyone old or young to move aside and die. That was an extremely cruel thing to say.

Iamhoosier said...

I find it amazing that so many people are saying this is moving too fast.

To those of you who feel that way, where the hell have you been for the past 20 years? This debate didn't start 6 months ago.

In defense of Shirley, her employer and staff generously donates countless services to the medically indigent of Clark County.
I ddont think there is a single person in that organization who have the attitude of letting ANYONE move aside and die.
Having access to medicare for those who can not afford health insurance is NOT a bad idea, if you are blind enough to think that you dont ALL READY pay for indigent medical care, you are sorely mistaken, those unrecoverable health care costs are passed on to you, me, everybody.
The Hospitals and staff will get paid, and they do so by rasing the cost for services rendered to cover write off expenses.

Thank you Chris.

Why doesn't Floyd Memorial Hospital pay the $9 million bond money back?
Someone dropped the ball, and the county should tell them to pay up or put the damn place up for sale.
Are you reading this County Counsil members?

Anonymous said...

I for one do not need the Government to help me with insurance that will be up to them what kind of service I get. No thank you!

I'd be happy to have this kind of health care when Obama and all of Congress and the Senate are subject to having the same coverage as we the people. Mean while, If Mr. Obama thinks we will sit quietly and let this happen...well, he ain't seen nothing yet.
Attend the March On Washington, September 12,2009 and tell Baron Hill he has betrayed the democrats of Indiana.

I'm sure it must be me or maybe it's the new math system, but can anyone explain to me how you save money on health care by spending 1,000,000,000,000.00 (1 trillion dollars)?

Anonymous said...

3:53, it was reported on CNN it will be $2.3 trillion, not 1 trillion.

You will lose if they pass the Obamacare Health Plan:

a)Freedom to choose what's in your plan
b) Freedom to be rewarded for hewalthy living, or pay your real cost
c) Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage
d) Freedim to keep your existing plan
e) Freedom to choose your doctor

I do not want the government controlling my senior mother's health care, how about you Shirley?

The usual "little people" palaver -- they don't care at all for the truly underprivileged, so long as their anti-Obama screeching (make that, "racism") has a cloak of respectability provided by the insurance and medical lobbies.

Self-medication means never having to say you need to learn anything.

I have a question for you all: do you all get your cheesy one-liners listening to Rush, or does he source the material for his show by reading your forum?

*Where in the bill does it say you can not keep your current insurance?
*Can your Senior mother currently choose what coverage she gets with medicare?
* Do you REALLY have the freedom to choose whats in your plan now unless you actually privately buy the coverage? (plans offered by employers generally do not allow people to pick and choose just what they want)

Do you have the financial stability that if you were to loose your job to pay cobra rates to keep your current coverage indefinately?

If you found yourself unemployed and with out insurance, how loudly will you be screaming that the system owes you?

What we need is tort reform and competition among insurance companies without government involvement.

Anonymous said...

and look where competition between insurance companies has gotten thus far.

Hurry, hurry, step right up get your Obama health care plan right here, right now.

Watch for the circus wagon then lock up your elders, your children, the dog and your checkbook because:

The great Obama is after them all.

Just who do you think operates Medicare? IT'S THE GOVERNMENT!!!
If it wasn't for progressives, liberals, forward thinkers(whatever), a senior mother probably wouldn't even have health care.

While I'm on the topic of those damned "liberals", if you are a female or a minority, and you vote, be sure and thank a liberal. That's who got you the right to vote. How soon people forget.

Barack stated on one of his PR moments that "O am sick of hearing about government take over of health care, thats not what this is about." The president further went on to describe how the government will cut through adminstrative red tape and pass those savings on to the customer.

I have 2 points;

1. If the government can cut red tape and pass savings on to customers, would the net result be all of the private industry's customers moving to the public option therefore this is a take over of health care by our govt?

2. Name 1 program the government has "cut red tape."

How can you and the others buy into this BS?

What we need is tort reform...

A lot of states have passed major tort reform and seen no major cost benefit. The problem isn't the lawyers. The problem is that doctors get paid more the more they order useless tests.

Amazing, wise sage, that you can see things that Hillary is blind to. She seems pretty happy working for the President. Are you saying Hillary is fraud stupid bitch too? Sounds like it to me.

So, if someone might run up medical bills for dehydration, then a nice hydrating Hoptimus might lower medical costs?

Roger, you should start a clinic! Healthcare I can believe in!

Closed minded? Read the article? Sister, I live in the trenches, and if you would take a damn minute to read what I post, instead of the first sentence before you start throwing out accusations, I never once said I fully support the plan.
I admit its not perfect, far from it, but it sure is the hell is a lot better than what we have now.

The biggest problem with healthcare in this country is the involvement of politics.

4 months ao I watch a 40 year old client and friend die of ovarian cancer that could have been slowed way down had medicaid not dragged their heals in trying to determine if she was sick enough for subsidized care, this last week end, along with an ambulance crew I helped carry my dying uncle 67 year old dying uncle into my 88 year old grandmothers house, a post CVA patient dx'd with advanced Bronchoaveolar lung cancer, the decision has not been reached whether or not he qualifies for government assiastance other than his medicare A.
You can hide behind your mask of cowardice and anonymity all you want, but dont you DARE try to assume I am "closed minded" when it comes to ensuring equal access to comprehensive medical care. I am working with a staff of 35 other caring wonderful people to give those who have swallowed everything, including their pride to come to us for help, over 7000 patient encounters annually, and you know what the scarey part of it is? THey come from ALL walks of life, uneducated, extremely educated, self employed, unemployable, and scariest of them all is families who months ago had very good incomes and lost it all in one corporate downsizing.

Closed minded, eh? You anons seem pretty quick to try and label people like Shirley and I, but in the end you dont know what the hell you're talking about outside of what CNN or Limbaugh tells you.

OK everybody let's calm down. First of all I never said I was for the President's health care plan.

Even Mr. Conyers, (who happens to be an African American) does not want the President's bill to pass. Mr. Conyers is the author of HR676, or Medicare for all in simpler terms.

He is not advocating socialized medicine. Under HR676 the
"Doctors in private practice will remain in private practice". "You will choose your own doctors and competition amoung providers will be increased, as you, not an insurance company, decide where to get care"

I hope you readers still have good health care, because so many people have lost their jobs and their insurance along with it.

There will be no more HMO's (WOOHOO), and PPO's such as Humana where THEY tell people which doctors they can see. No more problems like Norton's vs. Anthem where an insurance company tells people which doctor and which hospital they can go to.

I don't understand why people are talking about choice. Anthem and Humana are taking away our choices every day all while increasing our premiums and decreasing our coverage.

Please contact Baron Hill, Evan Bayh, and Richard Lugar and tell them to push for single payer. They will listen.
