I hope everyone is having a good day off. Unlike John Gonder this shopper is staying home. We had two wonderful Thanksgiving Dinners yesterday and I didn't have to cook either one, just made about a dozen pies.

I got great deals at Walmart yesterday, as my turkey was cooking.
Regardless of what the progressives write, they had several great deals.
As has been illustrated, there sometimes is a very high cost to low price.
But why wait for Black Friday to boycott Wal-Mart? I do it year-round.
Progressives never said that Wal-Mart's stuff isn't cheap.
It's only a "great deal" if you don't mind:
- Everything in the store was made in China.
- They don't give healthcare to most of their employees.
- They constantly fight unions.
- They destroy local mom & pop businesses.
- After they've been at one location for 15 years, they move to a new store a few miles further out, doing nothing to remedy the acres of weed filled parking lot that hurts property values for neighboring homeowners.
Why is it funny to brag about the deals you got from Walmart? If you are a really a little person, you do realize that Walmart is SCREWING you, right?

FOS and NAC seem to agree on Black Friday. A first? Maybe they'll break bread together soon.
So the UEA board of directors and board members are two different groups? That's how the post seems to read. Actually, there's just one board with ten members. Mike Ladd is the UEA executive director but not one of the ten board members.
I also am curious what the point of that post is unless anonymous is just reprinting the good news. I consider it good enough news to warrant repeating but I'm not sure that's what anonymous was trying to get at.
I'm sure someone somewhere considers it some type of smoking gun.

I also read the article about the sculptures. I kept looking for David Ross Stevens name on the list.
He is an excellent sculptor. Check out the statue of Fuzzy Zoeller at Covered Bridge. That is an example of his work.
Shirley, the parameters of the sculpture were announced, and artists seeking to participate had the opportunity to submit their ideas to a selection committee. I don't know whether Mr. Stevens "applied."

New Albany already has a similar sculpture by the same artist. It's been sitting in front of the Library for years.
I'm sure Price and Coffey would love to sell it for scrap metal if they could. But no one can say it's presence is in any way controversial.
I wonder if the little people intolerable of anything European would like to remove the downtown statue by Frenchman Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi? I'm sure little people find it particularly vulgar because of it's official title, Liberty Enlightening the World. Why would New Albany need a hunk of metal reminding us of "enlightenment," especially so close to the City County Building? Who's with me to remove it? You know the statue, it's shaped like the big one they have in heathen New York City! Tear it down! DARKEN DOWNTOWN!

It appears that 2 out of the 5 sculptures will be placed in front of business owned by one of those
Board Members. Is that a conflict of interest?

benefit of having one of those

The bicentennial committee has nothing to do with the UEA or its 10 board members. Two separate groups.

I like the Christmas tree. New Albany is starting to look like a real town again.
The whole light up New Albany is an embarrassment.
It isn't fair to compare the lights in New Albany to those in Louisville.
They have a lot more money to work with, especially since they merged with Jefferson County.
Besides they have been doing "Light up Louisville" about 20 years and we are just getting started.

What does being an Atheist have anything to do with St. Nicholas day or having Germanic heritage in a Slavic nation? What was the point or the need for that information? What was the author getting at? The column would have been a very good one if wasn’t for the first two paragraphs. It would have been par with the one about Armistice Day.
St. Nicholas Day is on the 6th. The column was published on the 3rd, hence (a) the topical reference to St. Nicholas in the intro, and (b) the fact that it also was mentioned in the text about Slovakia.

I think the questions are viable. You have accused others of making irrelevant comments etc. What does being an Atheist have anything to do with St. Nicolas Day? What relevance did it have to do with the story? How is being paid, to write in the Tribs editorial section, have anything to do with explaining the relevancy of being an Atheist and St. Nicolas Day. If you are paid shouldn’t your column be of the highest quality of writing? The Trib will print just about any person’s letters or allow anyone to be a guest columnist when they make you a staff reporter or editor then you may have something to brag about. And yes, I do read your column along with others please help me understand yours better.
I suspect I'll eventually address your "questions," probably at NAC, but not here.
What is the one thing held in common by each of the roles you cite, from letter writer to columnist, and including editors and reporters?
They all sign their names to their work.
Consequently, I'm not interested in a serious conversation with passive/aggressive anonymous folks like you. Create whatever rationalizations or excuses you like for anonymity -- indulge yourself and be creative -- but it doesn't imply that I have any responsibility to cooperate with the indulgence.
I stand behind what I say and write. If I'm correct, there's credit, and if wrong, there's blame. So it goes. Why should I waste more time than the five minutes its taken to write these words to "discuss" something with someone who doesn't share my ethos?
It's just all Bledsottian to me (it's a new word I just invented).

That is nice Roger I can see that you know how to make up words. Have you been practicing? If you know who I am then there is no conflict with your ethos. I have a problem with people who use double standards but that doesn’t stop me from asking questions. So what does putting your name on your column or letters have to do with rationalizing your first two paragraphs about St Nicolas Day? How does proclaiming to be Atheist have anything to do with St. Nicolas Day in the context of your column?
