UPCOMING EVENTS

The candidates will be highly visible this weekend.

Chuck Frieberger is hosting a "Meet and Greet" at the Hobart VFW Post on Grantline Rd. Saturday from 1-4. He is running for State Senator to replace Connie Sipes.

Patty Walker is having a Valentine breakfast at Applebee's on Grantline Rd. this Sunday from 8:00 to 10:00. Warm up with hot pancakes and coffee and it's just $5.00, can't beat a deal like that. Patty is running for re-election to the Township Advisory Board.

Have a great weekend everyone and stay warm and safe.

Chuck Frieberger's family money "won't" get him elected. Anyone but Frieberger and Gibson in my book.

Anonymous said...

I love Chuck F. I do not think Shane Gibson can get elected. Chuck doesn't come across as though his "family" has money. He seems to be a decent person to me all of the years I have known him.

But simply my thoughts.

Thanks for the info Shirley.

The Tribune article is a mind boggling article. It needs taken apart piece by piece. Do not forget under Garner's term and what he told Council.

Do not forget the City has been told umpteen times by Audit to separate the sewer funds.

Do not forget 3 legals have to be ran for the Public Hearing. Heck, without going back through all the law books in the law library at the city county building, I do not know Council can even take a vote without rate feasibility studies (which would never pass muster) and citizens' voices all over this County must show up and tell them HELL NO.

TIF monies owe? If it wasn't so sick I could almost smile over that issue. Hey, Kaye, why do you not collect the monies owed from TIF to the General Fund?

Nothing but another can of whoop ass opened today (i.e., simply another can of worms).

People do have the numbers. Please give us time to dig 'em out. Sickening.

Anonymous said...

Tif money I am referring to Kaye is the lovely Parking Garage where citizens are still paying for the utilities and the elevator to get the Bankers to their building. BTW, are you taxing the top floor of Community Bank yet? Sure looks perty from the street or is the City still maintaing the top floor was never finished? Uugghh.

Anonymous said...

Clear the smoke out and then you might be able to find the "numbers".

To my Darling Wife Diane,

to have a sweet thang like you.

Yore hair is like cornsilk
a-flapping in the breeze.
Softer than Blue's
and without all them fleas.

You move like the bass,
which excite me in May.
You ain't got no scales
but I luv you anyway.

Yo're as satisfy'n as okry
jist a-fry'n in the pan.
Yo're as fragrant as "snuff"
right out of the can.

You have some'a yore teeth,
for which I am proud;
I hold my head high
when we're in a crowd.

On special occasions
when you shave under yore arms,
well, I'm in progressive heaven,
and awed by your charms.

Still them drunks at the Brewhouse
they all want to know,
what I did to deserve
such a purdy, young doe.

Like a good roll of duct tape
yo're there fer yore man,
to patch up life's troubles
and pay what you can.

Yo're as cute as Erika
a-buzzin' through my head.
You ain't mean like those
little people I found in our bed.

Cut from England's cloth
like a dirty old man,
you spark up my life more
than a fresh load of dirt.

When you hold me real tight
like in a padded cell,
my life is complete;
ain't nuttin' right.

Yore complexion, it's perfection,
like the best vinyl sidin'.
despite all the years,
yore age, it keeps hidin'.

We go together
like a skunk goes
with stank.

Some men, they buy chocolate
for Valentine's Day;
They git it at Wal-Mart,
it's romantic that way.

Some men git roses
on that special day
from the cooler at Kroger.
That's impressive, "I say.

Some men buy fine-diamonds from Ceasar downtown.
Diamonds are forever,"
he explains, sauve and couth.

But for this man, honey,
these just won't do.
Cause yo're too special,
you sweet thang you!

Happy Valentine's Day

We just left that once promising blog, NA Confidential. It is now the home of the Faux City Council and other wannabe elected officials. It is such a pity the four cup rattlers, Baylor, Gillenwater, Smith and Cassidy squandered their chances of helping the city grow. Instead, their personal greed and lust for political favor from the old guard crashed the possibilities.

Add Steve K from the Tribune to the list of major sell outs. He too has chosen to look the other way to the corruption in New Albany by endorsing the policies of Doug England and Carl M. His motive? Access to city affairs. He doesn't care if it is accurate or not as long as he has something to fill up the pages to keep his paper afloat.

His editorials encourage poor fiscal management. It costs his paper needed credibilty. His actions hurt the community, and our future.

Thank you Shirley for this site. You are doing a great service for the City of New Albany.

Boycott the Tribune Newspaper!

Anybody who is a consumer has the power to boycott. We are in reality empowering ourselves when we say to Steve K.

This is about how "we, the people", can stand up and be counted. It's about reclaiming Truth and taking our city back.

The Tribune is all about falsehood-mongers!

Lay them all off, it's our money.

Can't say it any better than that 2:32. Words from a lot of people's hearts and heads. No one I know has ever stated it so eloquently about the Tribune, Mr. K and don't forget about how New Albany can not run their legals in same if the readership numbers are not there. Wonder how you find those numbers? Then again, probably count The Jeffersonville Evening News as part of the numbers. We have always wondered if the Tribune had the "real" numbers for Legal purposes such as running our Legals.

Remember folks, 3 legals for what looks like will be a public hearing for the sewer rate hike. Watch your legals and let it fly.

Happy Valentine's Day Jim & Shirley.

Double dipping is occuring in every county. Malysz and Rosenbarger "retired" from public service with full retirement and continue to work downtown at the same jobs at their current salary, they get wage increases, health care coverage.
The Tribune should do an expose on this if they have the courage and inform the tax paying public of this on going rip off.

As with every other problem we have in New Albany, it's England's fault.

The commentary from the anonymous crowd calling the cops fat and lazy and only thinking of themselves, besides being completely ignorant, and uninformed, is nothing more than more of their unfounded BS to stir up trouble.

I guess officer Price as only thing of himself when he got shot, Officer Schook was only being lazy when she got stabbed in the neck, Pumphrey was only thinking of himself when he had to shoot the guy that was trying to kill Officer Schook.

When the cops are catching burglars, meth cookers, gangbangers, child abusers, car thieves, spouse beaters, drunk drivers, of course they are only thinking of themselves.

What a bunch of cowardous anonymous morons on here!

Its pathetic and embarrassing.

1st, they knew what they were getting into when they took the job. They should Go apply for police officer, they need them in Clarksville. (Check out Sunday's paper)

In the State of Indiana New Albany police officers are in the top five highest paid in 92 counties.

Then tell us Christopher why the police and fire ARE calling for a forensic audit. Either there is two sets of books or they are coming after England's BUTT!

How much more can we give the police and fire, they get 85% of the general fund?

So what it boils down to Christopher D. is this. We either continue to let England to mismanage our money, give the police and fire what ever they want and give everyone downtown what ever they want and the hell with the rest of us.

Just because your father and his partner were shot (I am sincerely sorry to hear that) you are now blinded by what is happening in New Albany.

Since you are so up on police would you like to tell us where the apartment isthe police take their girlfriends for some afternoon delight?

I KNOW 3 former wives of police officers who found out their husband were taking women to their special home away from home.

Let's see how you answer this one.

So how about if YOU tell us, what is the average percentage expenditure for ANY similar or larger sized city for public safety? (police, fire, EMs, 911 dispatchers), Gee, I bet its about the same.

It just gets old fast when everytime there is a dime in question, right after saying england needs to go, you anons start attcking the police and fire.

And yeah, they knew what they were getting into when they signed on, and its not just because they think it all about them.

As far as the apratmnet, I honestly dont give a rats butt, as long as when I call they show up.

Its not like police officers are the only ones who cheat on their wives, and I wish I had a dollar for everytime that story has changed over the years, the secret parking spot, the special room at the holiday inn, the secret apartment, the favorite underpass. Most of the time that is rumor spread by people who hate the cops because they cant manage to keep from getting arrested for breaking the laws.

For clarification, I appreciate your sympathy for my father and mike helm (I really mean that) but they were not shot, they were cut off, with out communication, no take home car, no extra ammo, no radio's and walked in on an armed robbery, and were out numbered, out gunned, but managed to blow 2 of the dirt bags away, and chased the get away car in our personal Jeep CJ-5.

After reading Sunday's Tribune Editorial, Require all residents and law abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons. At minimum, every home must have one. Then turn around and fire 75% of the cops. Leave just enough policeman on the payroll to come and pick up the bodies of the burgulars and muggers.

Instead of adding cops, why not make better use of the cops we have. Why do we need 3-4 cops show up when some one gets a ticket?

More officers are killed nationally at "routine traffic stops" and domestic violence calls than responding to robberies, shootings, etc.

The officers showing up to back up an officer in traffic stop are often "10-6" (busy unless needed) and are available to make other emergency runs if needed.

Its hard to understand some of the procedures of police departments unless you have been there.

I am not the 7:05 poster, but I have been interested in this 85% public safety expenditure figure since Regina was Mayor.

I did a search and found that the figures are difficult to find for Indiana cities, but elsewhere, the figures seem to be around 55% (and much lower in other places).

Tempe, Ariz – 56%
http://www.azcentral.com/community/tempe/articles/2010/02/04/20100204tr-budget0205.html

Albuquerque, NM – 30%
http://www.cabq.gov/budget/pdf/insidecover.pdf

Portsmouth, NH ~50% (net of school funding)

Ypsilanti, MI – 55%

Colorado Springs, CO – 55%

I don't what can or should be done about it, though.

Can anyone tell me why the police & fire department who consume most of the city's resources (money) are unwilling to assist the city? Why are they receiving pay raises? Why can't they forego pay raises and perhaps even take a temporary cut in pay to help out? Shouldn't those who take the most and contribute the most to the budget problems be the ones required to contribute to the solution? Other city employees who make much less money have been the ones who have had to sacrifice by foregoing pay raises in the past several years. This is a real opportunity for the police and fire to show their true dedication and commitment to the city and the taxpayers.

The fire department is not asking for a pay raise, and they did not get a pay raise last year either. The are only asking to keep what they have going so that they can properly protect the city. They are also working very hard to cut out as much of the overtime as possible.

shirley baird said...

RE: the 70% increase in the sewer rates.

I don't want to pay a higher rate any more than anyone else. But I know this is a necessity. Certainly there is something that can be done to keep the citizens from having to pay this much of an increase all at one time.

I want to wait and see what the council has to say this Thursday.

RememberCharlemagne said...

I have a question.

The sewer board mentioned that they need money to comply with the EPA. I think it was about needing money for expansion so the EPA will award sewer credits. Can anyone clearify this for me?

Anonymous said...

They are under sewer bans until they make the necessary corrections so they can build more.

This is because they have not followed the EPA's mandates and because they did not follow Appendix D in the Consent Decree -- a simple five year maintenance plan.

Hope that helps.

Anonymous said...

Yep, this is where the citizens pay a 5-1 ratio in order to get one sewer credit from the EPA and the developers are still paying a 1 to 1 ratio. We have never been able to get the table even between the citizens and the developers.

Can you imagine how much more money we would have if the developer HAD to pay the same price citizens do to the EPA through fines? Battle has been fought for years.

And because the last "Plan" did not work. More coming from the EPA.

Shirley, how can you say, with all certainty, how they could possible come up with a rate they need when street department, drainage, etc., are still in the sewer funds and with the monies owed to the general fund from the Sewers?

Justification? Not in my book. Let them twist and turn for the 70% increase. WE CAN NOT AFFORD IT. Just my opinion Shirley.

I don't even understand how they could go through the sewer utility books to make a feasibiity study. The numbers and the outstanding loans to the city and TIFs are mind boggling.

RememberCharlemagne said...

What type of improvements is the EPA demanding?

If I read correctly they are in the millioins. Right?

I would think a million dollar project would take some time to implement.

Georgetown has started with their waste treatment plant why not wait for them to finish. The Georgetown people said, at the council meeting, that it would give New Albany 470 credits once Georgetown is off of New Albany's system.

The next question I would want to know would be how many credits does N.A. have remaining and would it be enough to get us through until Gtown is off our system?

the last rate increase met all of the projects required by the epa. we are not under any demands at this time and if we were the money was for special projects that were not mandated by the epa----they want the rate increase rather than a loan---because with a loan there is close scrutiny on how it is spent----not so with a rate increse---just more to play with

Dear Members of the New Albany City Council:

You have been placed in a very difficult situation. The Sewer Board is coming before you to request a 70% increase in rates. The size of this rate increase is extremely disturbing considering that a large portion of this rate increase is attributed to bailing the Sewer Board out for their uncontrolled spending.

Some have chosen to point the finger at you by stating the Council caused the problem by not raising rates in the past by the amounts that the Sewer Board had requested. This is pure nonsense and simply a means of pushing the blame from where it truly lays. Rates were approved in the past and budgets were to be established by the Sewer Board in order to keep expenses within the amounts those rates were designed to support. The Council did not authorize the Sewer Board to spend more money than what the rates would support. The Sewer Board took it upon themselves to spend more, way more, than what the approved rates were designed to support.

Are you comfortable with raising sewer rates and providing even more money to a Board has been unable to show fiscal responsibility? Much time and money has been spent by the Sewer Board to arrive at the proposed rate increase. There has been nothing mentioned publicly by the Board stating what they plan to do to reduce expenses. Some say there is no place that cost can be reduced. If they are unable to find ways to reduce costs, then why do you feel the citizens who are limited by their income will be able to cut costs in order to pay for their proposed rate increase? If the Board is unwilling or unable to come up with a plan to reduce spending, then this should be a clear indication to you that fiscal responsibility still has not been grasped by this Board.

We all agree that the problems with our sewers have been on-going for too many years now. Simply providing more money without fiscal responsibility and accountability will only lead you and the citizens of this community to face this situation again. The Council is not to blame for the over spending by the Sewer Board, but the Council does have the responsibility and will be held accountable by the citizens of this community to ensure that this is not allowed to continue.

We trust that you will act upon our concerns.

Sincerely,
Concerned New Albany Citizens

CITY AND COUNTY MEETING AT LIBRARY (IN NA) at 6:00 PM. All 3 TV stations to be there (except 41 of course). Citizens from near and far are attending. Business owners which would be put out of business are also attending. VFW members, Georgetown residents.

Sorry, Tribune would not print the meeting. SO, WE ARE PRINTING IT. Tell everyone you know. Thanks.

P.S. OF COURSE THIS IS ABOUT THE 70% SEWER RATE HIKE. Thank you.

BTW, where are all the other do gooders, i.e., nah, I'm not going to name their names. Ha.

I just read on FOS there will be a Townhall meeting at 6 pm tonight at the Public Library. How come the Tribune is not covering this? They only print what the mayor wants printed, this is an example of bias reporting.
I have a voice and I plan to give Dan Coffey an ear full. How about you?

Little of this would matter without the hilarious prospect of Prof. Erika coming to the meeting in neo-colonial, tea party garb. Worth the price (is wrong) of admission, natch.

Will Cappuccino allow dissenting voices, or only ones that agree with him?

This particular "do gooder" will be busy at work doing good.

As far as the sewer rate increase, it sucks, I don't want it, don't need it, and cant really afford it, BUT I jave all ready made ajustments in my budget to counter any increase in fees. ANd it starts with water conservation to lower my bill based on water usage.

lowering the tank water level in the potty, low flow shower head, and taps, TURN OFF WATER WHEN BRUSHING TEETH (each minute the water is running while brushing your teeth uses up to three gallons of water), going to add another 50 gallon rain barrel for outside use.

We've been doing this since the first mention of the rate increase, and should see results on the next bill.

The Tribune DID print the announcement - first.

Who told coffey where the library is?

Zesto's on Charlestown Road Opens today!

Anonymous said...

Will there be a petition at the library tonight, so people can sign? When is the 'official' public hearing before the City Council?

Anonymous said...

petitions do absolutely no good. They are a waste of paper, ink, and time.

Thanks for posting the information about the Town Hall Meeting. I was going to do so but I got busy.

I plan to attend but I will be a little late. I urge every taxpayer in Floyd County to attend. Since Mr. Coffey is willing to listen, we need to voice our concerns.

See you there.

What date was it announced in the Tribune?
More lies. I now believe the Tribune is bias and in the Mayor's pocket!

On the meeting tonight:
It's my fault if it didn't get in the paper. I wasn't told about it until late Friday afternoon, and I was off Monday and Tuesday and didn't get a chance to write anything on it. I was writing three other stories Friday and honestly the meeting slipped my mind until I was already on I-65 80 miles away. No conspiracy and I plan on being there tonight.

The New Albanian said...

Daniel doesn't even know he's on the take, LOL.

Thank you Daniel. Rumors travel and I am glad u set the record straight. See ya tonight!

Baylor agreeing with Coffey ought to be a hoot worth it's weight in gold, ha ha ha.

Baylor, you need to remember there are other businesses trying to make it besides yours.

There is a gentleman in the Industrial Park trying to run a business he started 2 years ago. It is a bare boned business with no bookkeepers, only 3 employees besides him and he can't afford it. Besides the citizens you hate so much can you expand your mind to realize there are people who are trying to make a business work in New Albany who CAN'T AFFORD THIS? This is simply one example of business owners who can not pay this. Nah, I guess you can't. This is simply a game to you.

BTW, Freiberger is a teacher and his wife is a teacher. His brother may be a dentist and have some monies, but Chuck isn't a rich person and bah humbug to those insinuating otherwise.

Not to change the subject; simply something needing a correction.

"Hate" citizens? Nah.

Agree with Coffey? Unlikely.

The best 3rd district imaginable? Priceless.

It's time to rumble citizens of New Albany. And a warning to Mr. Baylor, don't think you will be a majority at this meeting because were sick of you and you will be way out numbered.
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but not your facts!

To the little people of New Albany

YOU ROCK!

Anonymous said...

Wonderful! Lets be sure to turn this personal and political! What a wonderful way to ensure that NOTHING will be accomplished.

Anonymous said...

the people on this site that post nothing but threats, insults, lies & troublemaking are far far worse than anything the beer guy has ever said. the tag line you are entitled to your opinion but not your own fact has shown here a lot following tyrades like this. I will be at the meeting tonight and I hope to god i hear someone say that because they will get what they have coming.

Anonymous said...

You are threatening us? What, are you going to hurt us? Keep this posting, Shirley. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

In defense of Baylor you should at least get your language straight! The word is spelled tirade.

Anonymous said...

Are insults for misspelled words all some are able to contribute? Pretty sad when the purpose of their post is simply to insult others. That really says a lot about the integrity of one's character.

Can we all just grow up a little and simply over look misspelled words and hold off on the insults?

There was some good info in the meeting for what I could stay. But it also raised more questions. Calling for the mayor and such to give up part of their salaries but yet no mention of council members to do so as well, & it doesn't sit so well that this is the same council that recently voted to keep full health insurance for part time employees.

I do have to admit coffey and price were good hosts, and up to the point I left, the proceedings were very civil, and not too much name calling (not too much).

Now I know I am going to get slated for this, but what the heck, mrs. Denhart presented her statement in a calm manner and refraid from name calling, but some of what she said was verbatim from previous posts on here as well as stuff from FOS. If she would only put her name to what she posts she would gain more respect and credibility. I'm not saying I agree with what she said, and I think her intentions are good, but it's hard to express any real cooperation when there is such a level of double standards. Just stand up and be counted!

READ THE TRIB TOMORROW---IT LOOKS LIKE CLERE TO THE RESCUE ON SEWAGE RATES---WHAT BULL. IT IS STILL AN INCREASE AND THE TRIBUNE HAS NEVER BEEN SO BIASED IS SUPPORTING OF A CANDIDATE AS THEY ARE WITH CLERE---IF CLERE EVER GETS A COLONOSCOPY THEY WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE EDITOR'S NOSE FIRST.

I want to personally thank everyone who attended the meeting and Mr. Coffey for making this happen.

We all may disagree at times but we do have the right to express our opinions and we should do so whenever possible. (Politely if possible)

Christopher, if I had known you were there I would have introduced myself. (correction: if I knew who you were I would have introduced myself)

Shirley,
Despite the picture painted of me as being a horrible ogre, I tend to keep to myself and generally do not engage in much public speaking.

But as usual, I was lurking in the corners and shadows with my camera. I will probably watch the videos a couple times before forming an opinion about the whole meeting. About the only thing I definately at this point I didn't like was a person asking me if I was spying for the mayor!
