Hello everybody. I missed the first part of the council meeting last night so I did not get to hear the mayor speak. I heard that he told there were death threats. That is deplorable. I hope these people get arrested and convicted of terroristic threatening.
The bill that no one really wanted to pass did pass. Of course I'm talking about the sewer rate increase. Even the council members who voted for it said they did not like it but it was the lesser of two evils. Mr. Skomp said again how antsy the SRL is getting. He said their emails are getting pretty curt. He also admitted that if the city went into receivership our sewer rates could double. I don't like it either but we taxpayers paid this company to research and find the best solution for us. From what I understand they still need to pass G-10-10 which determines from which TIF districts the money will be taken. This meeting will take place on April 27. Since I have a prior commitment I will not be able to attend.
In other news, the position of full time attorney/grant writer passed the first two readings with 5 aye's (Ceasar,Benedetti, Messer, Zurschmeide, and Gonder), 3 nay's (Price,McLaughlin, & Gahan), and one abstention (Coffey).
Finally the whole council came together and voted unanimously to appropriate $100,000 from the Riverboat funds to demolish those 14 unsafe houses and buildings. All of us in attendance held our breath but thankfully the building did not fall on our heads.

I don't see anyone defending a threat. Whitlow has already been to the person's house and was more interested in who owned what and who lived with whom.

I haven't seen the flyers and hear they said to not vote for Council members and the Admin next year who supported rate hike for sewers. The group put their name on same. Before CFA gets all worked up about the INDOT $6.125 million, keep something in mind. INDOT mandates the money be spent on transportation. INDOT would not have allowed the money to be used on sewers. None of this money would have been available to lower sewer rates. Check it out yourself, CFA.

Thanks for the attention, but guess what, I got an email back from Mr. Thompson, and OH MY GOD, there was a blown O ring, which was replaced early this morning at the city garage, here is the email, if you dont believe it call Mr. Thompson yourself.
"First let me thank you for bringing the leak to my attention. I called the garage 1st thing this morning and they had already replaced the o ring that was causing the leak. The problem of the mechanical sweeper vs. a vacuum sweeper is a little harder to deal with, the cities budget constraints forced us to look at less expensive sweepers. The mechanical sweeper does a comparable job with the added savings on maintenance and operating cost we chose the mechanical. I didn't see an address in your e-mail, please tell me where you live and I will have it checked to see if the sweeper needs to run your street again. Thanks

Recently a resident of our community felt the need to publicly criticize your department for what he characterized as a yellow street sweeper spewing oil on the public road in front of his house. As you are aware, this citizen went as far as posting pictures on the internet of a road with oil spots which he claims was created by your employees while operating the street sweeper in front of his house. It is unfortunate that there are citizens in our community who will go as far as posting pictures of oil spots on the road in order to try and incite public outcry and controversy. This was a simple maintenance issue that was quickly identified and corrected by your dedicated and skilled employees. It certainly did not warrant the negative comments or pictures that this citizen publicly posted on the internet .
One can tell by the drastic change in his tone between his internet criticism and his email to you that his true motives were to attempt to portray the street department in a negative light to the public. Your email response to him extending an offer to come out and re-clean the road in front of his house demonstrates the professionalism in which your department operates. It is disheartening to see that even after this citizen made his public criticism on the internet and you tried to appease him, he had the audacity to tell you that it was not necessary for you to come out at take care of it because he cleans the road and sidewalks in front of his house himself.
With the limited man power and resources in which your department operates, it shameful that a citizen feels that he can rightfully take valuable time away from your day in order to fulfill his desire to try and stir up controversy in this city. We want to let you and your staff know that we appreciate the professionalism, dedication, and hard work performed by you and your employees.

I did not start this blog to score political points. I wanted to have a forum for everyone to express ideas and exchange information.
Unfortunately some people use this blog to spew hatred toward others. Yes, it is disgusting, and yes, sometimes I want to shut down and forget the whole thing. But that is what the hate monger want and I will not cave to their demands.
I believe there is still hope for New Albany and that most of it's citizens are honest, decent, hard working people. And I will not let a handful of miserable slugs change my mind.
I thought about closing the blog to anonymous posters but what about people who use pen names? Even if they have an email attached it does not always tell who they are. I don't know the answers but I will not shut down this blog and let the hate mongers win.
I am truly sorry about the insults hurled at certain people and I try to catch them as soon as possible. Chris, you are intelligent and give some good "jabs" at these people but I know you get tired of this nonsense. The decent people get tired too. Maybe the slugs will get tired of their games and go on to something else. I certainly hope so.
I want to thank the many posters who actually give good information and remain respectful to the other readers. I know you are in the majority and want you to know how much you are appreciated.

If they come, they come. If the ISP ever raids England's office, I'll be the first to congratulate you on your insight. But since you don't have any evidence other than Fifer's "wells...", can you please shut the h*ll up until the raid?
