PLEASE STAND BY

I did attend the city council meeting last night. Since I arrived home late, I did not post the report but hopefully that will be taken care of later today.

thanks

I'll link to it at NAC when there's time.

"Smart Drunks Ride Bikes"

I have reached the conculsion that the majority of the biking population in New Albany are alchoholics. I presume the reason is to avoid potential DWI's.

I have encountered more times than not, obnoxious, wreckless, hazardous and just plain onery behavior from this group. They clamor for respect from motor vehicles, but give none in return.

I suggest the state and local police keep an eye on this small band of troublemakers, and would encourage some random breathalizers. Maybe even a smattering of drug tests would be appropriate too. It is time we let them know it is not OK to peddle drunk, hurl insults, flash obscene hand jestures and be rude to motorist. Maybe a night in the drunk tank will help them to remember their manners and to remind them they too must share the road.

Shawn,

I don't think that most of the bike riders are drunks. It just seems in any situation a few people spoil things for everyone else.

The police need to watch the offenders though. At least arrest them for public intoxication.

Did council take position on not tolling the Sherman Minton?

Yep, I agree and have written about the same phenomenon at NAC. Trust me: They're just as obnoxious to other bicycle riders. But they're not clamoring, because most of them lack the vocabulary to clamor.

Ironically, last night I was sitting on the porch and saw a man bicycle past on the sidewalk, wearing a holster and sidearm, roughly ten feet away from the bike lane on Spring.

The gun? Whatever. But adults should be cycling on the street, not the sidewalk!
