JIM FRIEBERGER ON THE LOIT TAX

Floyd County Council candidate, Jim Frieberger answered my inquiry about the LOIT tax. With his permission I am posting his email.

"After having talked to numerous voters in my District, an overwhelming majority do not want a new tax passed at this time. So I have committed, as my opponent, not to vote in favor of the LOIT Tax if it resurfaced. In articles I have read, close to 50% of the people are being affected by the current economic downturn right now. Either them or their spouses being unemployed, having their hours reduced, taking a pay cut, or at the least, having a pay freeze, which doesn't allow them to keep up with current inflation levels. A majority of the people are cutting back during this downturn and feel that the Government should do so as well. They feel that the Council and County Government need to stay within their budget for now and unfortunately, make the tough decisions necessary to continue staying within their budget until the economy improves."

"I am hoping with my financial background and experience, I will be better equipped than my opponent to look a the currenct office budgets and try to find the best way to support the offices or programs that are essential to the county. One thing I would like to try to look into is the County Council itself being offered full Healthcare benefits for them and their family. I don't think this is reasonable for a position that is only a part-time job. This is the type of item I would like to dig into and see if there are some savings I can find for the county. We also have some tremendous inefficiencies in the County Sheriff Department due mainly to the overcrowding and ineffective lay-out of the jail. We are spending too much money on Deputies to guard prisoners when looking at typical guard to prisoner ratio's for the state, but we are being forced into for safety issues as well as keeping down our liability risk issues. We really need to push for building a new jail and using those funds that would be saved on Deputy salaries to be used for other public safety purposes."

He also added:

"I was disappointed with the Courier Journal article because it only covered about one fourth of our interview. It dropped all of my issues about the economy and me against voting in favor of a new LOIT Tax but that's what led into my support of pushing for a new jail because it is the greatest opportunity for cost savings for the county that can be used for other safety issues or projects. I think the editor didn't have enough space since he was covering three races instead of one as in his other articles (which I feel was a disservice to all of the candidates) and that he was trying to differentiate Dana Fendley and myself as much as he could."

Mr. Frieberger asked how I stood on this issue. If I have not made it clear before I will say again that I am also against the LOIT Tax. I know the city and county are in financial trouble but we must look for ways to cut expenses at this time. We taxpayers are in a financial bind ourselves and we don't need additional cuts to our net pay.

As an addendum, Jim also is opposed to tolls to enable the bridges boondoggle. He told me that he doesn't need to wait for further information after the election to know how he stands on the matter.

Somewhere, GOP ears are twitching.

frieghberger says what it takes to win elections, another typical flip flopping Doug England/Roger Baylor style politician. When LOIT was being pushed he was one of the good ole boys pushing it because the party bosses told him to.
thanks for your endorsement baylor you just won the election for grooms

I endorse improved reading skills, trognonymous. The post concerns Jim Freiberger, candidate for County Council. Toller Grooms is running against Chuck Freiberger for State Senate. But heck, longneck blurring can happen to anyone.

He is supposely (FLIP FLOPPED) against LOIT but for healthcare for part-time County Council members.

He just lost my families vote.

Anonymous said...

I seriously doubt he has more business experience than Lana or Dana. These democrats will say anything to get elected.

i will pay any toll to send baylor across the bridge where he belongs, maybe one of the brewhouses will hire him

Bridge to where? I'd think that living all 50 years in Floyd County would count for something. How long have you loved here, trognonymous?

Iamhoosier said...

Sorry, Roger. I think that question is a little personal--even for the anonymous. (grin)

How long have you lived in the city? I've lived in New Albany for 49 years.

Bottom line, I won't support a democrat or a republican if they support the LOIT Tax or is against Property Tax Cap.

That's the great thing about the general election you can vote for both parties instead of being ask if you want a Republican or Democrat ballot.

Great posting Shirley.

Right on 10:45.

Mr. Freiberger lost my vote when he mentioned wanting to get healthcare for County Council members.

What about the other part-time employees?

Look at the 3 City Council members and the cost to us taxpayers.

$60,000+ OF TAXPAYERS money.

Sorry Frieburger, I want a council member who is less green and is looking out for my families best interest.

ED Clere pleaded guilty to a charge of Public Indecency in 1993.

Holy Sick Puppies Batman. So much for his Boy Scout Den Master gig.

But Hey, I'm good with the State Rep thing (members are 18 yrs and older), I just wonder what R.O.C.K. has to say about their boy now.

LOL

Iamhoosier said...

Even though I'm no fan of Mr. Clere, a misdemeanor as a college sophomore 17 years ago does not negatively influence me at all. "Without", "first stone" and all that jazz.

Old News said...

FYI 2:57 how about printing the whole story and you can rest assure the Boy Scouts, Republican Party and other things Mr. Clere is involved in/with is well aware of the truth and not your BS!!!!!!!

Let's take a good look at Shane Gibson and Carl, why don't we?

Voyles IS FOR THE LOIT. Kraft IS FOR LOIT. I'm sticking with the ones I know oppose it, even though Kraft is running for Commissioner. Evans is also for LOIT. No health insurance for county reps either. Party splitting all over the place on the ballot.

No Shane. I believe in Clere. I think he has heard our concerns. I'm not sure though what his voice will mean to the outcome of what happens.

We have known Ed Clere for a long time and respect him as a dedicated,
upright citizen.

We should ask if the politicians are
looking into the COLLEGE experiences of all of the current candidates.

BOY-- WHEN THEY LIST ALL OF THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCES OF ALL OF THE CANDIDATES, THAT WILL BE A ROWDY BOOK.

HANG IN THERE, CLERE, WE ALL SUPPORT YOU.

We might need to shake the skeltons in England's closet since you seem to want to attack Clere.

Anonymous said...

Is it true that England tried to impersonate himself as a Police Officer ?

Anonymous said...

about as bad as baylor impersonating someone who cares about his city, the toll bridge is calling you to your true wannabe home baylor, frankfort ave wants you not us

I'm 100% against the building of any new jail in Floyd County.

It will not solve one problem that New Albany has, in the first place, when it comes to crime. I would rather see a pro-active plan at reducing the crime burden New Albany is under and foregoing the need for a new jail.

Anyone who supports the building of the jail can't see the hand in front of their face.
It is the same old governmental reactionary policy that has done nothing to make New Albany and Floyd County better.

RememberCharlemagne said...

Have I ever been convicted of a crime?

No, not convicted.

I laugh everytime Bill Murray say's that.

ROCK's fine with what Edward did in 1993, so long as he does 1Si's bidding these days.

All three are in bed together. That's the real Public Indecency.

Anonymous said...

Ed Clere pleaded guilty to public indecency in 1993. This tid bit did not make it to print. Instead the Republican paper tried to hide this fact by publishing it on the website only.

Very interesting Steve K. (smirk)

thats not as bad as how shane gibson has been ripping off the taxpayers while being city attny. now thats indecent exposure and since baylor is for gibson thats a gift for clere.

happy days are here again

Leave Ed Clere alone!

Just because he pleaded guilty to charges of Public Indecency doesn't make him a bad person. Ed will vote pro-life. He will go to church. He will vote to lower our taxes. What more can you ask for from our State Representative?

I am standing by Ed Clere!

(note to Ed: If you ever need a camping buddy give me a call. In fact, I going this weekend. If you want to go, meet me behind the bushes at the Falls of the Ohio Sate Park around 1:30 AM this Friday. I'll be the dude wearing a beard and shower shoes. No pants of course.)

One reason taxpayers are in a financial bind is some people not paying their share. Why didn't Shane Gibson go after the sewer collections on time? How much money was that? Was that to set it up to show that more sewer increases were needed? Is that Shane Gibson's job or Greg Fifer's? Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

To 4:53pm-From Tribune on Sept 10 -
"The city was set to file about $900,000 in sewer liens in August, but pre-lien notices resulted in about $300,000 of that amount being paid before the liens were recorded."

Wondering how much has been paid in this last month. How much is still due?

My name is: Common sense majority and I approve this message. Paid for by Citizens of New Albany, taxpayer as treasurer

I'm Not Voting for Jeanie, Jim, Chuck or Evans Frieberger since Baylor says he likes Frieberger.

I will also never eat fast food again because they serve fries and burgers.

Now everyone must go out & buy a little pool to keep the summer discount.

Does that include the YMCA?

everybody should ask shane gibson if the taxpayers can use his sewer since he made a bundle on the sewer bonds

Anonymous said...

hey baird how many taxes you gonna raise if you get elected when your buddy doug calls his cards in, oh thats right you wont have to worry about that a primary will take care of that

I think Ed Clere has a lot of nerve sending out these ads that make him look like a real family man, after his criminal background.

Thats the best you can come up with?

Heck I did a few things in college that I was not proud of but I learned and grew. I'm a much better person now because of it as I am sure he is.

Your problem is you probably:
1. never went to college
2. have done worse things
3. continue to do worse things
4. have never learned and remain a loser.

shane gibson is doug englands right hand man, nuff said. the choice is easy and clere

I also thought Ed Clere was in favor of tolls on the bridges. I guess it was because he has been endorsed by 1SI, an organization which came out in favor of tolls.

WOW . . does that mean Gibson is in favor of atheisism because he has been endorsed by Roger Baylor of the New Albany Brewing Company who has come out as a self-proclaimed atheist?

Are you kidding me? Besides I have not heard Ed Clere expressly say he was against tolls.

I would like to make a clarification on the County Council Medical Benefits. The Council currently has the option to receive the medical benefits for themselves and their family. That's why I want the Council to review it, I feel it should be eliminated, that is why I made the statement that I don't think it is reasonable for a position that is only part time.

Anonymous said...

No kidding, he has been endorsed by Roger Baylor of the New Albany Brewing Comany, a self-proclaimed atheist. Besides I have not heard Shane Gibson come out expressively saying he is against atheisism.

The New Albanian said...

Nah, that's incorrect (as usual).

I haven't endorsed anyone in any official capacity as anything, whether blogger or atheist or beer drinker.

But I'll vote against the candidate linked to the $4 billion tolling project, and even if he was an atheist, I'd still vote against him. So there.

LOL

I agree with 10/13 4:41 pm--leave Clere alone!

He goes to church.

He is pro life.

He is endorsed by ROCK and he even helps them by going into Theater X to see if there are any holes between the booths.

NEWS FLASH: ROGER BAYLOR RETRACTS HIS ENDORSEMENT OF SHANE GIBSON

NA Confidential 10-17-10:

Roger Baylor of the New Albany Brewing Company and self-proclaimed atheist says: “so I say: Shane Gibson for State Representative.”

Voices of the People 10-18-10:

Roger Baylor of the New Albany Brewing Company and self-proclaimed atheist says: “I haven't endorsed anyone in any official capacity as anything”

Rumor has it the atheist is needing more handout$ from 1$I for NABC.

Yep, I said who I'm for, personally, which is why I used the word "official." I'm not making "official" endorsements as blogger, brewery owner, atheist or any other designation.

Did it before; done with it. You can do as you please. All there is here is me and my little ... vote.
