COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 19, 2012

We had another light agenda at last night's meeting.  The meeting was preceded by a work session which involved a presentation from Jack Bobo and Mainland Properties.

The Riverview Project has been broken down into  three phases.  The first will be retail, and include the parking garage, the second will be rental apartments, and finally condos.  This was changed because of the economy and the banks' reluctance to finance large projects at this time, especially condos.  Mainland has seen interest from several local banks, so that is good news.  The design has changed also, two new archtecutal firms have been hired, Studio A and QK4, both from Louisville.  There is less plaza space and the buildings are closer in design to the existing downtown buildings.  They are hoping to break ground in the next couple of months.

The only agenda item in the regular meeting was an Ordinance to increase the number members of the Bicentennial Commission from five to nine.  With the Bicentennial so close, CM Zurschmeide said the members expressed a need for more members.  There was a unaminous vote on the first two readings.  CM Caesar suggested that David Barksdale be added to the Commission.

On another topic there will be a meeting Monday at 6:30 at Slate Run School for a discussion on the Master Plan for our sewer and stormwater projects.  CM Coffey will again be the moderator and requests as much public input as possible.  Please try to attend.

Shirley,

You said that if you were elected to council you would go over the budget line by line and cut costs. Well, what have you found so far and what line of the budget are you on now? What costs have you found to cut?

We have not started on the 2012 budget yet but I intend to go over the budget line by line as promised.

OMG...Are you kidding Ms. Baird? The 2012 budget was approved by the council and submitted to the state in 2011. The council approved budget is on file in the Clerk's office. Really having a hard time understanding your justifications for not having started going over the budget line by line as you promised? Is it that you have just been to busy to get a copy of it from the Clerk's office?

Wow...this is scary!

I was mistaken about the budget. I will get a copy. I cannot promise to start making changes immediately.

I will do a good job and a THOROUGH job on the council. Please give me a little time.

Being on the council is a lot different than being on of the people in attendance as the current and former council members can attest.

You are NOT answering 10:43 question. Are you for or against an investigation or an audit. It's not a trick question it's simply a yes or no answer.

I am not opposed to an audit or an investigation. The taxpayers deserve the transparency required to answer their questions.

The 2013 budget will be certified and sent back to the council around March 1. That will be the time to bring out the fine tooth combs.
