MAD AS HELL DOCS COME TO KENTUCKIANA

The Mad as Hell Doctors Road Tour will be in our area tomorrow. They will arrive in Louisville around 11:30 and meet with various single payer and health care reform advocates on Main St. near the Center for the Arts.

The big event will be at 7:00 tomorrow night when the doctors join the KNHP and HCHP groups,
Kentuckians and Hoosiers for common sense health care reform. There will be a candle light vigil and walk across the Clark Memorial (Second St.) Bridge.

The MAH doctors come from Oregon and they are crossing the country on their way to Washington DC. They have put up their own money to fund this trip but they will gladly accept donations. These physician/advocates, Drs. Samuel Metz (Anesthesiology), Joe Eusterman (Retired Internal Medicine/Occupational Medicine), Eugene Uphoff, (Family Medicine), Paul Hochfeld (Emergency Medicine, producer of "Health, Money and Fear") and Mike Huntington (Retired Radiation Oncology, co-convener Oregon PNHP) are serious about single payer. By the way PNHP stands for Physicians for a National Health care Plan. Information taken from the Progressive Democrats of America web site-

When you consider that per the lastest Harvard study 45,000 people die per year for lack of health insurance and 60% of bankruptcies are because of medical bills it's time to get serious.

Please join us tomorrow night on the Indiana side of the bridge. Please bring a candle and a flashlight, and rain gear. See you tomorrow.

I wish these guys all the luck in the world!

Coming on the heels that today we had to send out an "offical notice" to our employees in the clinics, that depsote 17 years of fighting to provide quality, affordable health care to the uninsured and under insured, United Health Care, and all of their wisdon decided to drop our health insurance coverage for our employees effective December 1st.
They cited an obscure Indiana Law stating we have to have at least 50% participation of the employee pool to not be in breach of contract, even though they had covered us for years knowing only two employees at the time were participating, we have 48% participation now, and they dropped us like a rotten egg as soon as two employees are diagnosed with serious illness, two employees will now be considered uninsurable....

(Yet there are those who still say we dont need reform?)

Anonymous said...

That's not what were saying. We are against HR 3200.

That's not what were saying. We are against everything.

"(Yet there are those who still say we dont need reform?)"

Yes, there are. Just like there are those who still think Steve Price is doing a good job as council person.

Christopher D said...

Okay, os you are not against reform, just 3200.
Fine, but could you please tell me how that is supposed to make me sleep at night when are having to start turning new (uninsured) patients away because we dont have the resources?
And how that will help me sleep at night when one of my staff members is going to lose insurance halfway through breast cancer treatment?

The politicalizing of health care reform is nearly as big as a travisty as any inhumane act that we as a country have every committed.
Millions of lives are literally at stake.
ANd again, I invite anyone who is against any type of immediate reform to come to my office and explain to the 30 to 60 new patients per week that they dont need any help, that they are not really suffering from cancer, copd, CHF, diabetes, hypertension, renal failure, etc.
The doors are open and my office numbers for any of out three offices are listed if you care to take that step.

Not trying to be too argumentative, but ugly truths require ugly facts to be recognised sometimes

Iamhoosier said...

One of the arguments that opponents are using is that they don't want the government deciding their health care. Insurance companies and employers are already deciding our health care--and we really don't have much to say it about it. Yeah, you could change your job if you don't like the plan that you employer picked--who has the cajones to do that right now?

Another idea is letting insurance be sold across state lines. "Competition" they say. Be able to pick from 50 or 100 different plans. I wonder how many doctors will be interested in filling out and coding insurance forms from 50+ different insurance plans?

I have watched the difficulties my father-in-law nd mother-in-law have had with VA benefits and Medicare, respectively, including the fact that the system basically forces them into using the ER most of the time due to the wait times to see a doctor or the distance to an appropriate office.
And now you thinl I should let the government run my family's health insurance too?
To borrow a phrase from the last election. "Thanks, but no thanks."

shirley baird said...

Dear Anon. 10:22

I'm very sorry your in-laws had problems with their insurance.

We have retired military patients who are supposed to be seen @ Ireland Army Hospital. If they are seen at another hospital they just need to sign a form and return it to us. I then process the claim to the VA and we are paid with no problem.

I was not aware of any waiting involved. All the form does is authorize us to file their VA insurance.

As far as Medicare is concerned. That is my favorite insurance to file because it goes electronically with no problem and usually pays within 10 days.

Anonymous said...

Why I am against HR 3200
1. All private health insurance that the government will not "qualify" will be outlawed within a year under HR 3200 bill. These mandates will permanently outlaw the HSAs that I use.
2.If you do not purchase insurance, you will have your wages garnished and be put into the public option. When private insurance is put out of business by Obamacare, all of us will share that fate.
3. You are also not counting the fact that OBAMCARE will compel it's physicians to accept Medicare and Medicaid compensation tables, which means that doctors will shify the cost of HR3200 to privately insured patients as they do with Medicare and Medicaid already.

This is yet another indirect tax.

shirley baird said...

I don't like the mandatory insurance either. There is an amendment to HR3200 proposed by Anthony Weiner which includes single payor and is much closer to HR676. Please Google "Weiner Amendment" and see a comparison to HR3200.

RE: my earlier comment, I meant to say retired military people are supposed to go to the VA Hospital on Zorn, not all the way to Ft.Knox.

Iamhoosier said...

Both of my parents were on Medicare. The last few years of their life, I took them to their medical appointments and handled their finances. Never had a problem a with medicare. Paid little, if any out of pocket, except for drugs. Of course, they did have a Part B supplement.

I have way more hassles with my private insurance than I ever had with Medicare and my folks.

Christopher D said...

Okay you laid yoru points out very well.
But it would appear that you are reading a different proposal than I.
I dont recall any language that will "outlaw" Health Savings Accounts (HSA). But I will not argue that point, not worth it.

Obviously you have coverage, and you have options.

There are a silent segment of our population who do NOT have options, and either through lack of education, mental illness, and a hundred other reasons do not have a voice in this matter, do they?
They are the ones (and that adds up to MILLIONS of Americans, not counting illegals), who are every single day getting more sick, going longer with out the comprehensive medical care that they not only need but deserve on a fundamental human rights level.
If you do NOT think that these peoples lack of coverage or options directly effects you, you are sadly mistaken.
Most medically indigent persons who become ill or suffer from acute exacerbation
of a chronic disease seek treatment at an emergency room for situations that can be controlled, or avoided in a routine care setting.
The cost of treatment of these conditions in an ER setting is far greater than in a primary care office. This unrecoverable cost for treatment is passed on to YOU, it is passed on to me, it is passed on the every person who uses hospital services, whether trauma care, diagnostics, surgical care etc.
As those costs rise, the insurance company increases premiums, copays, deductables, etc.
Also this demographic I mentioned is more likely to file medical malpractice suits in an effort to gain financial stability, again further increasing the costs paid by you, me and everyone, as the doctors increase their charges for services to cover the increased cost in malpractice insurance.
Of course, in the course of this discussion and many like this one that I have had, everyone I have talked to about this lists why THEY are against this plan or that plan, and how it will effect THEM, but not one single person I have spoken to that is against reform measure even acknowledges the millions of Americans who are with out any coverage, or is currently forced to choose between food or medicine, Utilities or durable medical goods. Or are forced to use less successful treatment options because their state subsidized coverage will not cover modern treatments that are more effective, with less recovery time, and less long term expense.
So would you care to stop thinking about what may inconvenience you personally and what we as a nation NEED to do to care for our most vunerable citizens?
And please dont use the good old line about how "those people" just need to get "real jobs". That has been discussed and rebuked quite well.

The more vocal opponents to Health Care Reform are more than likely middle to upper middle class, well insured empty nesters.

Nothing that can be said or done will appease them, they are more worried about what’s best for them, and not everyone in general.

These are the same type of people who put NO signs in their yard, who are against everything and everybody that is not status quo.

Ironically, these people, who refuse to allow change to help those who need it, are usually the first to raise ten kinds of hell when the Government doesn’t bow down and serve their greedy needs when it comes to services.

Wow, FOS in its latest post calls President Obama a Muslim. (actually, she called him a "Muslin.")

Question for the nutty professor: You know one when you see one, but you can't even spell it correctly?

Apparently the "professor's" political science degree studies had nothing to do with Islam, the world's second largest religion. No Middle Eastern studies in school, professor? It's obvious you wouldn't know a Muslim if you saw him.

If VD's ideas lack merit, then we can point that out without name calling.

I do wish that FOS would show dedication to issues-only discussion too.

Or is he a hypocrit?

Anonymous said...

The Horseshoe Foundation has invested over $40 million in Floyd Co. over the past 10 years.

See that YMCA down the street? See the 10,000 people going in and out of there each month? See the low income people who have to pay greatly reduced memberships to join and exercise, to have educational and after school programs for the kids, and to be healthy?

You know who's paying for most of it? And you know what? The YMCA is just one of many, many, many investments made by Horseshoe in New Albany.

Where's Wal-Mart's YMCA?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I'm start shopping at Wal-Mart if they act like a member of this community. They can even be disingenuous about it; just write out a $20,000,000 check for a new library, park, or school, and Wal-Mart will be my new best friend. Heck, I'll shop there if they just write out a $5,000,000 check.

first, you need to know that more money leaves new albany via the boat than via wal-mart. you're shown me the boat numbers but not the wal-mart numbers.

second, for roger to be a hypocrite for knocking walmart and not the boat, he first has to first support the boat. maybe he supports the boat, maybe he doesn't. i don't know, i've never asked him about the boat. show me that he has ever taken a position on the boat and we'll begin to figure out if his boat vs. wal-mart position is hypocritical.

Aside from the two spelling errors, the syntax error, and other mistakes, you still have failed to articulate how Roger is Hypocritical.

It's not hypocritical to merely be against Wal-Mart. As the other anonymous pointed out above, you must first establish that Roger supports another business that is more egregious than Wal-Mart for doing the same "sin" and doing so without other redeeming factors.

It's a difficult question to answer. It's difficult to know the true economic impact of one business versus another.

From Roger's Column today:

But there’s an even further boost. These new food, drink and entertainment businesses downtown are locally owned, and a far greater percentage of the money spent with them stays in the community instead of being dispatched in wheelbarrows to Bentonville, Ark.

Now if Roger wrote, "Don't go to Wal-Mart, go to the boat instead because more money stays here if you put it in a slot," then I think you might have a point.

Are you questioning whether money spent at a downtown restaurant is more likely to stay local than a dollar spent at Wal-Mart? Statistics on shopping local are easy enough to pull.

Wal-Mart gives more to charity
02.25.08, 1:36 PM ET
AP) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. increased its U.S. charitable giving by 8 percent last year to $296.2 million, slower than its overall profit growth for the year and below the increase in 2006.
But the world's largest retailer said Monday it expects it had retained its position as the nation's largest corporate donor for the third straight year.

“I think the strawman was that Roger supports the boat and that the boat doesn't give back. That's where it started. You can see where it ended up. Everywhere and no where.”

Seriously are you that thick headed you said that I didn’t
The point is if Roger is against Wal-mart because the money spent there goes to Bennettsville then I ASSUME he is against the boat sense all of its profit goes to Nevada. If not he would be a hypocrite.
It is not hard guys to fallow that I can’t believe you can get confused with it.
So far I have given four facts to back up what I say now it is time for you all to do the same or do you all hold other people to a higher standard then yourselves making all of you hypocrites and that is why you don’t comprehend.

Anonymous said...

Never said wal-mart is bette than horseshoe either they both suck as much as you all comprehend

Anonymous said...

D- on the homework. who cares how much wal-mart gives to charity is most of it or all of it is outside of new albany. where's your walmart-new albany stats?

Anonymous said...

"The point is if Roger is against Wal-mart because the money spent there goes to Bennettsville then I ASSUME he is against the boat sense all of its profit goes to Nevada."

You called Roger a hypocrite since you ASSUMED that he believed your ASSUMPTION.

you have no proof that he is for or against the boat, yet you still called him a hypocrite. that's called building up a strawman and tearing him down.

Anonymous said...

why are the boat and wal-mart in a pissing contest?

why does it matter who gives more to charity?

Anonymous said...

now does the other anonymous actually have anything that roger actually said (as opposed to thing you think roger might believe) that make him a hypocrite?

don't make it up. tell us when he said the first thing, and then when he said the second/hypocritical thing. things you assume he said don't count.

Anonymous said...

and if you cannot find a hypocritical statement by roger, when will you be retracting your accusation and name calling?

Anonymous said...

ladies and gentlemen, let me give you an example of hypocritical:

FOS First, calls Obama a socialists.

Second, FOS praises Clinton and her wise policies.

Third, Obama's and Clinton's economic policies are virtually identical.

Hypocritical?

Anonymous said...

wasn't hillary in charge of the 1992-1993 plan to socialize healthcare? wasn't that plan much more drastic, much closer to true "socialism" than anything obama has proposed?

why you assume again that it's roger posting anonymously. i think roger's proven that he's willing to sign his name to a critical statement. what in this thread is different than what he's written non-anonymously in his blog or columns?

you know what happens when you ass-u-me, anonymous.

Anonymous said...

i know why anonymous is not willing to sign her name. she knows she can't back up here accusations with statistics?

how's that CIA investigation going?

when do i get to see the tapes of the mayor and gonder hatching their evil plot?

Anonymous said...

when will you be retracting your accusation and name calling?

i hope it's not because you have too little time, with your volunteer code enforcement for the whole city and stuff.

being bitter isn't fun. there are good people in new albany trying to do good things. no one is out to get anyone. come on down to the riverfront bluegrass event tonight, enjoy the show. go to the farmer's market tomorrow. buy vegetables from your neighbors, take them home, and cook them for some other neighbors you invite over for a picnic.

if you think the policies roger advocates are stupid, say so, but that doesn't make him a bad person. same for policies advocated by the mayor. no one is saying you don't have a right to speak. everyone will respect you most when you carefully check your facts and argue your position, whatever it is, with passion, sincerity, reason, logic and civility.

thanks Rodger I don't know if I should fallow the advice though, you know because you make a public ass out of yourself when people disagree with you in public at council meetings. I know you hold yourself to a different standand then you do others like your positive yes sign with negitive write in

Anonymous said...

Do you have a NO sign?

Are you saying you're not negative?

Yet you criticize Roger for being negative?

Then call him hypocritical.

Amazing stuff.

I intended to post earlier, but there was this little matter of collecting my winnings at Horseshoe. By the time I had a bourbon and a couple of steaks ... well, you know how time flies.

Anonymous said...

As of August 2008, there were 4,227 Wal-Mart stores in the US.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_Wal-Mart_stores_are_there

If we accept the $296.2 million figure, then that is annual giving of $70,073 per store. New Albany has one store, so that’s $70,073 in New Albany. Of course that assumes equal distribution among all stores. I will assume, but I think it’s a safe assumption, that New Albany does not receive a greater share of this than average. I suspect Wal-Mart’s corporate headquarters received more than average, as is typical with any business. Greater than average givings elsewhere would cause lesser than average givings in New Albany.

Horseshoe has given, on average, $4,000,000 per year in New Albany. That’s 57 times more giving than Wal-Mart’s average, again, assuming we get the full $70,073 average.

Now that in itself does not answer the question: Is a dollar spent at the boat more likely to stay in New Albany than a dollar spent at Wal-Mart?

It’s possible that New Albany citizens spend more than 57 times as much money at the boat as they do at Wal-Mart. While I’m sure the boat does well, doubt they’re doing that well, especially since a minority of their gamblers are from New Albany. Most of the people at the boat are from Louisville, Clark Co., Harrison County, and a lot of other places other than New Albany. Most of the people shopping on Grantline Rd. are from New Albany. We need more data to be 100% certain, but all in all, it looks extraordinarily safe to assume that a dollar spent at the boat is much more likely to stay here than a dollar spent at Wal-Mart.

Before you can tear down a strawman, you need to build one up first.

which is funnier when Vickie got the better of Roger at the council meeting

which is funnier?

the yes signs or the illegal, fake PAC?

which is funnier?

the demand for accountability or the FOS president who can't do the math to know what accountability looks like?

which is funnier?

the calls to cut the budget or the fact that FOS can't tell us which services they'd cut? or is it that you're going to save $4,800,000 by eliminating the bike lanes and malysz's salary?

which is funnier?

denhart's supposed hidden camera in her driveway or the CIA tapes we've never seen?

which is funnier?

price's incomplete sentences or price's cluelessness?

which is funnier?

the fact that denhart can't get her point across or that everyone at the city-county building has known for years not to listen to word that lying nutcase says?

Yawn.

When I blog or post, I do so as I'm doing now. That way, you know it's me.

Anyone anonymous or otherwise who says or implies that I post anonymously is mistaken.

Every time Ms Denhart tells someone that the city paid for our patio, she's mistaken, too, and with each additional mistaken assertion, it becomes more accurate for us to use the word "
lie" to describe it, and "liar" to describe her.

It makes that other word more accurate, too, but that's old news and I shan't revisit it.

If Wick's Pizza decides to carry NABC beer, will Erika begin castigating them for the new sidewalk out front? Will it be political favors then, too? Inquiring minds want to know, and to yawn just like me.

But I DID enjoy the line about keeping one cop on hand just to throw me out. I got a nice chuckle out of that one.

So your saying tax payer money was not used on your patio? What fund did it come out of then?

Anonymous said...

Don't worry anonymous, everyone know what a whack job he is. Denhart got him good, when he could not play the poor victim. Let's see what he does the next time.
It will take someone smarter, bigger and better to get to her. He has a lot to learn. He's just not that smart.
$10 words don't cut it, not even a cm.

i guess the judge who denied the restraining order is part of the evil england cabal?

Anonymous said...

So your saying tax payer money was not used on your patio? What fund did it come out of then?

you're so smart, prove the taxpayer paid for the patio!!!!!

but you CAN'T, CAN YOU?

it's either because:

(1) taxpayer didn't pay for it, or
(2) you're not that smart, or
(3) all of the above.

Anonymous said...

ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

Anonymous said...

yes we can!

Anonymous said...

we'll say we can, but we'll never prove it to you.

just like everything else!

Anonymous said...

it is great how Roger wants everyone to prove that he is right or wrong and he won't do it for himself.

prove that it wasn't tax money

Anonymous said...

"prove that it wasn't tax money"

sounds like the statement of someone with no proof.

of course, denhart wouldn't know proof if it bit her in the ****.

Anonymous said...

Yell Roger, prove it wasn't tax money. I'd love to see the concrete company with their jackhammer have to bust all that free concrete up.

Anonymous said...

if you're so confident it's the city's patio, go out and reclaim it. i'm sure the police wouldn't mind giving you a tour of the jail.

Anonymous said...

I'm with you anonymous, Baylor needs to prove it was not our money who paid for his free patio. What's he going to do when England's out of office?

Anonymous said...

the city paid for anonymous's house too. anonymous should riot in jail. oh, i forgot, the CIA is after anonymous. and anonymous was abducted by aliens and smoke crack with bigfoot.

let's not forget that no one, absolutely no one, thinks price/coffey/denhart/"erik" are a joke.....except roger.

no one else possibly could post here anonymously except roger, because EVERYONE else in new albany think's price is a god, coffey a genuis, denhart a professor, and "erik" a person.

Anonymous said...

and roger, let me tell you something else!

we know that when coffey won his election by a few votes, when price won with only 37% of the vote, when valla ann didn't get a majority, and when denhart was barely worth a mention, we know that ONLY ROGER voted against them. everyone else voted for coffey, price, valla ann and denhart.

everyone else LOVE those leaders.

everyone else voted for them. the CIA is investigating because roger, after getting drunk off his progressive pints, sneaked into all the polling stations, past our smarter, sober eyes, and changed all the ballots without our seeing anything.

it's all roger's fault!

we all won with landslides!

little people unite!

sincerely,

I hate to rain on your parade Bigfoot but Citizens for Accountability "DOES NOT" have a vice-president. That's not how a PAC is set up by the State of Indiana.

It is clear to me, we have only one clear choice in 2011. She's the right candidate for the future of our city.

For all you reading out there. I know Valla Ann personally and my family can tell you that she really is concerned for the citizens of New Albany. She is always one to put herself out in order to serve a greater good.
