I thought about making the usual New Year's Resolutions but decided to list New Year wishes instead. They are listed in no particular order. Just wishful thinking.
- For everyone to have health care, not the expensive kind with high deductibles, but the kind that pays for everything, like all of the other civilized countries have.
- For everyone who needs a job to find a good one. A job with a living wage and good benefits.
- For everyone to have a clean, safe home which they can afford.
- For New Albany to have working sewers and stormwater drains.
- For New Albany to repair all of it's unsafe and dilapidated homes.
- To have the Greenway project finished so everyone can walk along the riverbank safely.
- For the K & I Bridge to be opened for pedestrians.
- For the continuation of the revitalization of New Albany's downtown, including the Main St. Master Plan.
- To end the war in Afghanistan and bring our troops home.
- For people to quit trying to take "In God We Trust" off of our currency.

For me, New Albany is where I was born, it where I left and moved back to, it where I have buried family, and started a new family.
Its where my friends and I grew up, went to school, its where no matter where in the world I go, I always come back to, its my home.
New Albany is a place that pisses me off for its short sightedness, but comforts me for its ability to keep some of its history alive.
New Albany is close to big cities with out the big city crime, it is close to some of the best wilderness left in the country, but still able to "city" stuff.
The way I see it, New Albany is what the individual makes of it. Some of us see untapped potential, while others see a stagnant dead end town.
Some of us see it for what it really is, a typical small midwest city with a rich history, good cultural diversity, and good opportunities waiting to be mined from the rough.

By all means, if I have erred in that statement, please show me some of the solutions offered, demanding certain politicians step down is not offering a solution, demanding publishing of reports available under open records acts is not offering a solution.
That is just talk, not action. PIcking up a paint brush to help some one tidy up a run down house is action, planting a tree or neighborhood garden is action, implementing a neighborhood watch program is action, as well as taking a garbage bag and cleaing up litter in your block.
Even the most hated elected officials are in essence DOING more than most of us, same can be said for the police officers and fire fighters, they are taking action to bring their vision of a better coty to light.

It is easy to sit back and just "Talk" and say people complain without taking any action. Could that be part of the problem itself when people make blanket comments like that when they do not know who is doing what? The action things mentioned (planting tree, neighborhood watch, pick up liter, etc) and a lot more have been done by us and many others. Some of us do not have to boast, be praised, or be acknowledged for doing these things. It comes natural for us to do these things.
As for the comment that we are looking for someone to bail us out by buying our houses, the original comment made was simply not to tell us to move unless you're willing to purchase our houses. We are smart enough to know the mentality of some folks and that their solution (talk) to us would be to "just move". We do not consider moving the solution to New Albany's problems.
I'm sticking around just to piss the rest of you off. You can't run me out of my town. I was borned and raised here.

I never said I was looking for credit anything, and I never made any "blanket statements", you are simply trying to be argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.
You are simply missing the entire point of what I am saying. If you do things to help clean up, spruce up, and give the city a hand up, good for you and I applaud and thank you for that.
Also, I wasnt the one who first said to just move, did I? No. I assume you were the one who said if someone wanted to buy your house and you would move, sounds like you would take a bail out, does it not?

New Albany may not be the "Garden Spot of the World" but it is our town and it is what we make it.
I don't intend to ever move away and I do want to do what I can to help. And no, I don't want to make a big splash so I can brag, that is not me. But I think that everyone should contribute what they can, if it means keeping your property clean or participating in a neighborhood clean up, whatever we can do.
Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight but they do a lot behind the scenes and are not recognized, because that is their choice.
Everybody whines and moans about things, that is just our nature. But we should do more than just complain. Now before you CFA members jump my case, I did not mean you. I know CFA contributes a lot and the members don't brag a lot.
It's just that everyone should do what they can with what they have. As I said earlier, keeping your property clean is a big step in the right direction. Supporting the New Albany businesses whenever possible is another big step. Even if we eat at McDonalds or White Castle, these places are ran by local people or at least employ local people. If we just stay in New Albany instead of Clarksville or Louisville we are helping our local economy.
Personally, I am seeing more people taking pride in New Albany and more interest too. Let's continue in 2010 and build on what we have done.
And by the way, I believe that more than 15 people comment on this blog, I know many more people than that read it, or so they tell me. But the number of readers does not matter, if only one person is helped by being able to express themselves on this blog then I have done a good job.

I am excited about the 6/7mill. because it will help the city. I did ask why the SEJ neighborhood was chosen over the west end and was told that there was a larger concentration of homes in the area. Several areas were checked out and SEJ was chosen.
I do not live in an "upper crust" neighborhood. I live in the same neighborhood as my childhood home. We live in an apartment, hardly a mansion.
I did not use the west end to get attention, either politically or any other way. Jim and I still have family & friends in the 1st district. And we keep in touch with them continually.

I don't know why you are so angry that you have to type in all caps. But I did check with "American Legal Publishing" and could not find any qualifications for political office other than being a registered voter.
It is true we are not homeowners at present but we do pay property taxes indirectly through our rental payments.
And yes, I do plan to run for City Council At Large in 2011. I have not made any public announcement because it is about 12 mos. too soon.

SEJ has an active neighborhood association. The West End has no neighborhood association.
The West End will never anything if all they do politically is attack other parts of town. The West End needs to be responsible for its own destiny. More neighborhood cleanups help. Neighborhood watches are good. Getting rid of Coffey would help. Welcoming people who want to start businesses in your neighborhood helps too. What is the West End doing to make itself better?
How about a New Year's resolution for the West End? How about two?
1. Stop blaming others for West End's troubles.
2. Start working to make the End End better.
If you want to stick to those two resolutions, no one is going to stop you. You don't need permission. You'll be amazed at the people who come to help if you yourselves set a good course and lead by example. Stick to these resolutions and a year from now you'll see a big change.
I'd be surprised if Frank and Yvonne will still live in New Albany much longer. Too many people wish they would leave. Their "clientele" was just the wrong type of crowd. Some people are mad and will be mad for a long time.
You can be 100% sure that Frank and Yvonne's neighbors on Main St. will be waiting their house like hawks. If there's too much traffic to and from their house, the police will be called. Called every day if need be. People aren't going to put up with that any more.

Actually the west end does have a neighborhood association. It is called Friends and Families of the West End.
This organization is responsible for the neighborhood cleanups in the past 2 years.
The problem is that the residents are not participating as they should. Ted Fulmore said he had the same problem when they started the SEJ Neighborhood Assoc.

Nope, not at all. Just not worth my time thats all. If you want to try and start crap, make sure you do a better job of it.
