TAP IN FEES IN LINDEN MEADOWS

Yesterday's Tribune had an article about Linden Meadows.

It seems the Sewer Board wants to waive the tap in fees for three homes at $1,650.00 each. This was per the request of Carl Malysz because he does not think the homeowners should be penalized.

Although I agree that the homeowners should not be forced to pay these fees that Community Housing defaulted on, I think these fees should be added to the cost of the property and the new owner pick them up.

If a developer is interested in purchasing the property, $4,950.00 would not be a deal breaker.
They would already be obligated for the tap in fees for future homes at $1,800.00 each.

That way the city does not lose any more money and the current homeowners are not forced to pay another fee after all of the problems they have had to endure the last few years.

NEWS FLASH ! IT HAS NOW BEEN MADE PUBLIC THAT FORMER CHDO DIRECTOR, JOHN MILLER, IS RUNNING FOR COUNCIL IN LOUISVILLE, KY.

IS HE GOING TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
FOR THE LINDEN MEADOWS MESS NOW FACING NEW ALBANY ?

Anonymous said...

Let me see if I understand this correctly. City officials are wanting to waive a total $4,650 in tap fees on three houses that the City failed to collect at the time the tap ins were done? The fees should have been collected prior to the taps ever being made. This is an error that the City made. Let’s not blame this on Community Housing. Had they been forced to pay upfront like everyone else, then these homeowners would not be in the predicament that they are in now. Why should the sewer ratepayers foot the bill for the City’s errors? Is it any wonder the sewer financials are in the mess they are in? I feel for those homeowners but why should they be treated any different than anyone else? There are a lot of people who have gone through hard times and are in just as big of a mess as they are in. The right thing to do is to force these homeowners to pay or better yet, demand accountability and make the responsible City official who authorized the fee not to be collected at the time of the tap pay for them. It is past time for the free giveaways to STOP!

How? Execution? Waterboarding?

Let's keep to the real topic here and not waste anymore time on Mr. Miller. Tap in fees being waved. Lost revenue having to be made up by rate hike to the sewer customers.

Christopher D said...

I would say put a lien on the house and collect when they sell. Or give the homeowners the option to pay it in reasonable installments.

I know its not really their fault it occurred, but there is a price to be paid for home ownership.

Of course the city could always go after the developers in civil court, but that would cost more than the tap in fees in the first place.

But it is a sad situation anyway you cut it.

the responsible City official who authorized the fee not to be collected at the time the tap was done should pay it.

Just two weeks ago you two knuckle heads, especially the guy with the book store, were attempting to scold the council into supporting a 70 % sewer increase. Good thing they didn't listen to you two, don't ya think?

I think since you two are so interested in doing the Mayor bidding you guys ought to run for council on the mayors slate next year.

How disappointing. It just ruins your whole argument when you're so sloppy about including accusations that might someday evolve into facts, if nurtured with enough lying.

Actually, we're secret agents planted here by the EPA, although you can't really say I was planted, since my house doesn't have a basement grow room, and I've lived here my whole life, but then again, that's what makes anonymity so entertaining on a daily basis.

Appears the sewer tap issues have been going on for a long time. Has anyone checked to see if IUS and Prudue ever paid their tap fees?

http://news-tribune.net/clarkcounty/x519377209/IUS-Purdue-still-owe-New-Albany-for-sewer-tap-in-fees

March 15, 2008 - IUS, Purdue still owe New Albany for sewer tap-in fees By DANIEL SUDDEATH

Indiana University Southeast owes the New Albany Sewer Board $167,643in tap-in fees for new dormitories, which should be paid before students are allowed to move in, said board member Bill Utz.

According to Sewer Billing Director Kelly Welsh, over $45,000 is also owed by Purdue Research Foundation for tap-in fees on their new facility, which is under construction at Interstate 265 and Charlestown Road.

Other comments from the article:

“Welsh said it is city policy to require tap-in fees to be paid before building permits are issued.”

“Neither the city council or the sewer board is in the financial situation to waive any fee that is legitimate and should be paid,” Utz said. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s a legitimate fee and it should be paid.”

During a recent City Council meeting, District 3 councilman Steve Price said if the sewer board forgave tap-in fees, then it would tell him they were not hurting for funding.

This is so typical of you clowns. The fact is most of the time you are smashmouthed drunk and have no idea what you are writing about, let alone what you just blogged.

Any time you guys are pressed for facts, you balk.

Your game is to promote the Mayor's agenda even if you don't understand it, in hopes it will benefit your bar. Ditto for the creepy dude who argues for an increased sewer rate of 70%, only to find out later the Mayor only wants 38% at best (at least for now).

Roger Baylor and Randy Smith or should I say, The New Albanian and The New Albanist (how creepy is that) respectively, are a laughing stock. Go drink another pint. And another and another. Tis what you do best.

Sounds like you're fairly drunk, too, although likely on that creepy flavorless light beer, because you write as though the two of us are one person. That's the reverse of seeing double.

The New Albanist is Randy, and his businesses is a cafe/bookstore. The New Albanian is Roger, and his businesses are brewer/pizzeria/pu and brewery/restaurant. To my knowledge, Randy seldom drinks in public. I do, because my public expects it, I enjoy it and it doesn't matter what you think about it.

Seriously: The only reason I ever got involved in any of this is that it makes you angry, and if I make an anonymous troglodyte angry, then I get paid (piece work) by the Obama administration as part of its polemicist stimulus program (as opposed to "pogram", which is what Steve Price would like to see happen to anyone who is literate).

HEY DENHART, if it's so damned biased, why is the Trib running your gibberish?

Hillary Clinton's Passion for Universal Healthcare rooted in Jesus’ teachings:

Hillary Clinton said, “Children need us. They are not rugged individualists. They depend, first and foremost, on their parents, who bear the primary responsibility for their upbringing.” She cited Jesus as the chief motivation in her government-based health care ministry to children.

“Take the image we have of Jesus and transposing it onto the face of every child we see, then we would ask ourselves, would I turn that child away from the health care that child needs?“

In this one passage, she brought her two predominant interests--health care and children--together under the umbrella of religion, in a telling explanation of her motivations for universal health care. It was an important display of the relationship between her private Christianity and her public policy. God had led her to believe in the value of nationalized health care.

Roger,

Frank Rich's editorial states that people feel threatened by the changing face of power, meaning politicians are less likely to be white, male, protestant or straight.

Who cares about their politics? Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton couldn't be more different in political views. But FOS supports them both. Why? Because they're both Anglo and female, just like Denhart. Denhart may cry about race (identity) politics when practiced by other groups, but she's as guilty of it as anyone else.

If she supported politicians based on their views, she would support Palin OR Clinton. Not both. The fact that she supports both (while opposing the black President whose views closely mirror Clinton's) tells me that race and gender are more important to her than anything to do with taxes, health care of the constitution.

It's difficult to draw another conclusions.

shirley baird said...

Come on people, get real.

I have known Vicki Denhart since high school and have never known her to be a racist.

I think there reasons why she supports Hillary and Sarah because of policy, not race. I have problems with this one because to me they are polar opposites.

There are people who support the President and those who do not, they are of all races.

And don't forget President Obama is 1/2 WHITE. Everyone seems to conveniently forget that fact.

If you are going to bash someone, at least give a good reason for doing so.

Now we know why Bendetti screamed Price down and Gonder then proceeded to gavel him down; they did not want public PRECEDENT has been set by "giving" sewer credits and/or tap ins away. Hey, Gonder was Chair of CHODO. Did he participate in a cover up and thus all the screaming and gaveling against Price?

2. Gonder was not chair of the CHDO, he was a board member but not chair.

3. Cover up? How? Gonder does not set or waive sewer fees. That's the sewer board's duty. Their meetings are open.

Besides, why the h*ll are we bickering over $5000? Is that going to pay off our bonds? The CHDO doesn't even own those houses any more because the three that were not collected have ALREADY BEEN SOLD to LOW INCOME PEOPLE.

Go collect your $5000 from some little people and shut up.

The one facinating thing I've learned is the staggering ability of so many people to deny reality here.

It's clear the "progressives" don't get it.

My opinion is this: Whether you call it a mallard or a canvasback or a teal, it's still a duck.

If you take anything decent, traditional and uplifting and flip it on it's head you have socialism.

To wit:

Socialists believe in the use of force to gain their personal ends. Whether it's light bulbs or alternative energy, or national health care, in the end there's always a gun at your head to get you to conform.

If a man holds you up in the street, does it matter if he wants the money for drugs or to bail out someone's mortgage? It's still a gun, and it's still armed robbery.

Socialists believe the worst in everyone. They believe we are all racists, therefore racism must be shoved in our faces constantly. They believe we are stingy, so we must have our money forcibly removed and redistributed to others. They believe we are heartless and the only source of compassion is the government, so compassion becomes government mandated.

What progressive and socialist are really afraid and concerned about is your ability to defend yourself against them. If you have a dissenting opinion, you are mocked and ridiculed for having the temerity to disagree. They do not believe in freedom of speech or they wouldn't be concerned about Voice of the People, CFA and FOS.

They are hypocrites.

Above all, socialists and progressives are in denial. No matter how much you point out the obvious here that the government is fulfilling the dictionary definition of socialism.

I'm not looking at the soothing words Obama speaks as he sprinkles fairy dust in our eyes.

I'm looking at what he is doing.

The least you local progressives can do is admit it.

Above all, socialists and progressives are in denial. No matter how much you point out the obvious here that the government is fulfilling the dictionary definition of socialism.

That depends on the dictionary you're using. If it's the John Birch Society version, then yes, maybe what you're writing jibes with truth. If it's the Great Soviet Encyclopedia" then sorry -- we're not even close.

If you're really a legal beagle, then you should know that you're committing the fallacy of the straw man. Your definition of socialism is your own, not one derived from a level-headed study of reality, and it's the weakest definition you can possibly contrive, thus making it easy for you to burst it to shreds like a pinata.

Since that's your only purpose, you tilt the board to make it easier. It helps you "win" the argument, but it's fallacious.

Look it up.

While I'm on the topic of deaf ears, I remind you that this reign of socialist terror you so inaccurately depict comes as a result of a fair and free election, with a popular vote margin approaching that of Reagan's victory over Carter, and the electoral college decisive and fairly close to a landslide.

So far, President Obama has done LESS than his platform promised, not more. See paragraph above, and note that none of this comes from the clear blue sky. He made health care reform a platform plank, and won the election. It was right there. Gee, why did all those people vote FOR it?

Just like patriotism, capitalism and theology, socialism isn't something that can be summarized in a few paragraphs by someone whose only intent is to phrase it so simplistically that is can be demolished.

You'd think a "legal beagle" would know that. Either you're not legal, or not a beagle. Maybe both.

Funny, just 4 weeks ago the utility couldn't afford to make bond payments, and now they want to borrow $7.5 million more.

We think the Council should do the right thing and insist that the Sewer Board be more responsible with their funds. We think they should use the money they have, without borrowing another penny.
