TIME OUT

I will be taking a mini vacation for the next few days. Hopefully, there will not be a computer anywhere in sight.

Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy this beautiful spring weather.

See you next week.

Shirley,
Guess you are in DC. We don't see the same way on Health Care. Too many people "assume" what the money figures and conditions will be. I probably would be considered to have a 'great coverage' plan. I cannot afford any more fees or taxes. I see it coming from the Health Care Bill now. Someone needs to find out the 'specifics' and 'definitions' they are using. What 'they' consider me or someone else as needing to pay to help the 'system' may not be what I can afford. What are the $ penalties for not having insurance? What would minimum and low wage earners have to pay? If they double or triple what you and your family pay, Shirley, can you afford it? If your BMI is higher than 'big brother' says, will your rates go up or pay penalties? Remember we are dealing with 'politicians' who say what they think we want to hear but 'forget' to add details. Remember what happened to the Credit Cards (gave those companies days to change/dodge the new laws). Yes, help is needed but just 'reform' the insurance laws first!!!

The younger healthier citizens will now be forced to pay their share, instead of going without health insurance. They may not like the high rates, but that is the way it must be. Right now Medicare doesn't pay enough of the bills, so now maybe doctors and hospitals will be paid more, so some won't refuse to take patients. Maybe my supplemental insurance costs will come down. When you are retired, the costs increase but not your retirement income. If you are really ill, those bills pile up. Right now, I am thinking I may need to ask my daughter, if I can move in with her family. Not that they can afford it, but times are tough. I need more options.

"So how's that open & change working out for you morons who voted for Obama?

Wait until Roger has to pay fines for not covering his employees with Obama care."

This bill started as any other law in the history of civilization had begun. It was born out of a need to address a problem within society.

I would submit to you that this is NOT Obama's bill as some would suggest. This has been attempted by multiple administrations prior to this one.

As a new bill, it is much like a newborn child, and it will change and grow, just like pretty much every bill that has been signed into law has.

Some are acting as though this is the end of democracy, and I for one am tired of hearing that, there was not this much outcry for the "patriot act", and the subsequent tapping of our phone lines, government sponsored racial profiling, getting your JUNK scanned by a $10 per hour airport security guard.

How can this be treated as though it is the end of democracy, when NO bill, NO law is EVER immortal. As political party popularity waxes and wanes over electoral cycles, bills and laws are amended and sometimes rescinded. If people are so against this bill, then the opportunity to partake in the sacred right to VOTE will be forthcoming, and the time will come to change this.

I do not completely agree with this, and the pork attached to it is insane, but at least for the time being, when I look in the face of those who are uninsurable under the current system because they had the nerve to get breast cancer, or MS, or HIV/AIDs, I can at least hope they can get the treatment they need to at least make what’s left of their life comfortable, with out ruining the financial future of their families.

Coffey's latest slop includes the statement:

I was contacted this Sunday, March 21st, by another group of developers that were also interested in this same property.

Why would a group of developers contact Coffey? He's not the mayor. He's not on the redevelopment commission. If the developers were interested, couldn't they have responded to the RFP?

Coffey is well known for his disdain of developers. Why doesn't Coffey tell us who these developers are? MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXISTS and Coffey's just creating a reason to criticize the mayor.

In CJ:

Americans by 9 percentage points have a favorable view of the health care overhaul that President Barack Obama signed into law Tuesday, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, a notable turnaround from surveys before the vote that showed a plurality against it.

By 49 percent-40 percent those surveyed say it was “a good thing” rather than a bad one that Congress passed the bill. Half describe their reaction in positive terms, as “enthusiastic” or “pleased,” while about four in 10 describe it in negative ways, as “disappointed” or “angry.”

The largest single group, 48 percent, calls the bill “a good first step” that should be followed by more action on health care.

what gets me is if certain people here don't agree with a persons opinion they attack them and then go over on NAC and they take pot shots and accuse them of not taking their meds and etc.

But if they state their opinion their right and others are wrong.

Baron Hill is so done you could put a fork in him.

As far as Obama ask yourselves why would someone spend $3 million to defend himself if he had nothing to hide.

Do I believe he is a muslim and a radical? Yes, so take your best shot at me.

Does Pelosi get botox shots it's documented.

Do you wnat to pay for others healthcare? I don't.

I'm reading the 2,700 pages and just maybe some of you need to read it also.

Does Indiana want to bail out California? No, if they mismanage there funds and allow SEIU to be catered I say shame on them. Why are they not being made to pay their fair share?

Just like sewers, most of us want them to use EDIT, TIF's, Rainy Day and CDBG money and any other fees or funds. Just because a certain group wants our money used for them, why should I support that?

Why did council pass an impact fee and only two HAVE been collected and was written up by the SBOA?

People and many should I say agree more with CFA than with the mayor and this downtown group.

I think their ideas are good and I have not heard any better ideas from the mayor or anyone of you.

There are solutions to solve our problems no one wants to give but put everything on the backs of us rate payers.

The mayor doesn't want to give, the police do not want to give so now the council is going to have to come up with using EDIT and TIF'S.

Btw, our city can not raise property taxes that's the Governor's job and England can't force the County Council to raise the LOIT Tax.

Again, why should we be made to cover this administrations mismanagement, over spending and mistakes?

Take your best shot.

Shirley, I sure hope you had a great time in TENN.

5:49 thank you I did. I know who you have been talking to.

The reason I posted that I would be out of town for a few days was to let everyone know that I was not ignoring my blog.

I was not happy about the health care bill either. I don't think it is fair to force people to buy insurance. The rest I am unsure about since I have not read the 2,700 page bill.

Mayor England must have deep pockets to have so many people in them. At least he gets plenty of Dilly Bars.

Since Dan Coffey quit letting people post remarks it looks like they are coming over here instead. Well at least they can read my articles while they are here.

I don't have anything to write about now unless anyone wants to hear about Gatlinburg, (which I doubt).

5. Richard Nixon
6. Jimmy Carter
7. Bill Clinton

Geez I guess they were ALL socialists.

Oops...forgot Kennedy.

______________________

Here's a little more history.

John F. Kennedy

In many areas, Kennedy echoed the concerns and beliefs of FDR and Truman. He believed rising costs had moved health and medical care beyond the reach of too many Americans. The health care system was overburdened by a lack of sufficient doctors, nurses and hospital beds, he said. And all of that came to roost on the people who relied on the system the most, the elderly.

“No piece of unfinished business is more important or more urgent than the enactment under the social security system of health insurance for the aged,” he said during his 1962 State of the Union address.

Lyndon B. Johnson

Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Medicare bill on July 30, 1965, during a special ceremony in Independence, Mo., home of Harry Truman.

Noting there were 18 million Americans 65 years of age and older, Johnson said Medicare meant “no longer will older Americans be denied the healing miracle of modern medicine. No longer will illness crush and destroy the savings that they have so carefully put away over a lifetime so that they might enjoy dignity in their later years. No longer will young families see their own incomes, and their own hopes, eaten away simply because they are carrying out their deep moral obligations to their parents, and to their uncles, and their aunts.

Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon submitted his wide-ranging National Health Care Strategy to Congress in 1971. Although rejecting the overall plan, Congress enacted specific points, such as programs to attract more people into the health care industry, the National Cancer Act, and the National Health Service Corps that provided health care professionals to rural areas and inner city neighborhoods.

The country was spending more than $75 billion a year on health care, he said. “Yet, despite this huge annual national outlay, millions of citizens do not have adequate access to health care. Our record in this field does not live up to our national potential.”

Bill Clinton

On Oct. 27, 1993, Bill Clinton presented a health care reform package to Congress. It was named the Health Security Act, something he said “guarantees every single American a comprehensive package of health care benefits.

“We have tried to draw on the best ideas put forth over the last 60 years by both Democrats and Republicans,” he said. “This bill reflects the sense of responsibility that President Roosevelt tried to put forward when he asked that the Social Security program include health care. It reflects the vision of Harry Truman, the first President to put forward a plan for national health care reform. It reflects the pragmatic approach that President Nixon took in 1972 when he asked all American employers to take responsibility for providing health care for their employees.”

Check you facts before spewing disinformation. Persons that may be a sex offender can all ready get viagra, levitra with medicare suppliments or medicaid.

Lets not forget sex offenders who have private insurance, or sex offenders who apply for prescription assistance through Pfizers connection to care program, or (GASP) pay cash for it.

So under this train of thought, if a sex offender rapes my daughter that did not need viagra, is it health reforms fault? Or in the long run is it the fault of the court system?

I have heard seom pretty far fetched exaggerations regarding the health care reform, but you should win a prize for that one.

There are so many questions needed to be ask like SRLF Funding and etc. It's us rate payers who have to foot these bills.

I personally would like your thoughts on yesterdays Tribune article.

To many questions not enough answers from this administration.

Example: If we don't need to borrow $7.4 million, then why do it?
