ALL TALK AND NO ACTION

There is not much to report about the city council meeting tonight. The meeting lasted from 7:30 to 10:00 and virtually nothing was accomplished.

Everyone was tired of discussing the sewer rate increase and there was a lack of good information. To solve this problem the council decided to meet every day next week from Tuesday through Friday at 6:00. If the meeting room is not available another and smaller room will be used. These will be open to the public if space is available.

Mrs. Benedetti vowed to meet every night until a solution is found.

Jeff Gahan did mention the information from Sen. Lugar that you sent him.

In an amazing turn of events at last night's City Council meeting. Benedetti lost it. Our local Citizens group trumped the council and Mayor. It is hard to believe that the Mayor is more concerned about TIFS and EDIT than what's best for our city.
Mrs. Denhart pulled out her trump card with many ways to generate revenue. She silenced the crowd of concerned ratepayers.
This is the state of affairs in New Albany, where "reason" seems to be squandered and "agendas" go to the top of England's list.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed there weren't more ratepayers there last night to speak against the msyor.
That was democracy at its best. Each one of you should be proud of our local citizens group they had a win-win solution for ratepayers and the City of New Albany.

Yes, I was impressed with her talk also and asked her for a copy. I will be quoting parts of her talk in a later article. I think she made some good points.

way to toot your own horn, denhart. too bad you are a racist, hateful women who does not understand when you are in over your head on subjects you do not understand.

ratepayers, ratepayers, ratepayers.

what the hell?

do you think people who see a rate increase as the responsible thing to do are not ratepayers?

are "them people" avoiding sewer bills by using outhouses?

are little people the only ones who poop in something that costs money?

TELL ME THIS, WHO IS NOT A RATEPAYER?

we're all ratepayers. get over it.

Benedetti needs to be run out of town, she is a disgrace to the taxpayers. Maybe she can afford the sewer rate increases with her big real estate money and her lexus with Ohio license plates and her obvious money to escape a drunk driving charge but most people cant, get a clue Benedetti you dont represent the majority, you represent the monied special interest developers who want these overpriced sewer upgrades that will benefit your real estate developer friends and line your pocket off the backs of the working people.

You are finished politically Benedetti and any other council person and council candidates who push for this rate increase

Shirley, did you notice the DATE they need the moneys moved from April 1 (drop dead date) to the end of April? I guess Dianne didn't catch that and why she wants meetings every night. I'm sorry. She was near hysteria last night. I worry she is near the breaking point.

Price was trying to tell Council about Linden Meadows and how Carl illegally got the sewer credits for the project and boom! Dianne screamed "I told you we would talk about that some other time." Last night WAS the time for talking and revealing sewer department issues, wasn't it? And, there were more illegalities but there was NO WAY anyone would let the audience hear.

Maybe we can write a letter to the paper.

I want to know what happened to the moneys and I want Developers to START PAYING FOR DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS.

It's not an uncommon things Folks. In Florida a Developer can not build unless THEY put the infrastructure in; hey, even the schools are included in the plans. We should be so advanced.

Was it Smith suggesting the leaf blowers? This was funny. People in the audience (retired) said they would love to have a job and blow that blower. Try to end on a light note here.

11:37 were you there? I didn't think so.

Yes, I did notice the change in the deadline date. Mr. Skomp was so insistant last week that this be resolved immediately. Said he was getting calls asking if the council had made their decision.

Something happened in the last few days....

Re: Diane Benedetti: Let's give her a break, OK. I have seen some of the men on the council get red in the face and yell many times. Nobody thinks they have "lost it". Sometimes I think people believe that women are supposed to be demure and quiet, wrong.

I remember when people would talk about Bev Crump because she "threw" her packet on the desk.

I'm sure it is very frustrating being the only woman on the council and constantly being "talked down" by the men.

Christopher D said...

I think this whole thing is going to be an ugly woeful situation. If I were the council, I would just be done with it and vote and roll the closing credits on this whole fiasco.

Honestly, no matter what they do they will be wrong, pass something using edit and tifs and a lot of people are going to be upset that we sacrifice potential progress to subsidize a city utility. (and we still will not be paying a rate equal to or greater than the operational expenses, and therefore be against state law)

Pass a measure that raises fees to a level that satifies that law, still be paying less than Seymour, Bloomington, Columbus, but face the wrath of those who are all ready calling for council members to be run out of town, and add another chapter to the eternal echoes of speeches declaring the wrongdoings of everyone downtown.

The rifts in the community will be widened, either way, the hostility will be increased, either way.

To pull out a trekkie phrase, this is a Kobayashi Maru, anyway you put it for the members of the council, so personally I feel they should just pass the best measure that they can that will ensure that all laws are followed, lest we have to deal with that later as well.

I think that Ms. Bennedetti's
performance at the March 18th City
Council meeting was embarrassing.

Why didn't Pres. Gonder keep the council meeting in order ?

She should be using her time and efforts to gather Sewer information to help the Council make difficult decisions.

New Albany deserves a better image
than what was performed at the March 19 meeting.

what about all the times that Coffee and price throw temper tantrums why no outcry on that

I also applaud our local watchdog group at last night's council meeting. She made more sense than our councilmembers and mayor.
Anyone see Malysz face when a woman ask if he would take a 10% cut in pay?

Anonymous said...

Citizen oversight is an important tool that helps to keep everyone honest. I hope that this group of residents do continue to keep an eye on the proceedings within our local government.

Anonymous said...

The local newspaper could learn a few things from you-Shirley.

Anonymous said...

I hate to harp on how other cities do things, but if you look at the Council Minutes for other neighboring cities, they give much, much more detail of the discussion that takes place.

Do you a 10% pay cut?

Didn't think so.

Crazy old hag.

Getting up and b*tching about how you don't like paying for services doesn't make you a "citizens' watchdog."

Anonymous said...

I'm going to get up at the next council meeting and scream, "I don't like paying for trash pick up, I don't like paying for water, I don't like paying for fire and police. Oh, Look at my, I'm a big ol' pile of citizens watchdog because I don't like doing no nothing."

Anonymous said...

And if anyone questions THIS citizens watchdog, I'm just going to point my finger at them and say, "you're on the take. you're part of the conspiracy. you're a communist!" Who the hell cares if it's true.

Better not mess with me, baby!

Anonymous said...

I didn't see that with Benedetti, Shirley. She was screaming other Council members down. She was holding her own, simply her actions and lack of knowledge was scary. Council needs an education.

We can have no progress with development until we fix the sewers. Let the Developers pay.

Anonymous said...

We applaud all their efforts we see the amount of information and the work these citizens do to help bring key information to the attention of the public. I was there and you were not. It's time for solutions, facts and hold local government accountable. We have to demand transparency and accountability.

Let the developers pay? We have two developers on the sewer board, one is president!

Community watchdogs? Watching out for what the next thing to complain about, to inflate the information to completely distorted proportions, to make up facts as they go along, to blog under fake names? There is a significant difference between a watchdog and a stray looking for scraps. This celebrated group is definitely the latter. All they are is all talk and no action. Also one would think such an outstanding community watchdog would not have been sued so many times and had judgements issued against them for bad debt.

GET A LIFE DUDE!

When the (whom ever) step in, cry in your beer. Only then, and only then, will I say I "told you so".

Morons. Let the Developers pay for the IMPACT.

Say what you must; in the long end you will see what you call the "little people" have the knowledge you do not have.

And, on and on and on it shall go.

WHO knows which end is up?

I AM LAUGHING OUT LOUD (LOL).

Every dog has his day and God help us, New Albany (yeah, little ole' N'albany) is about to have their day, in the sunshine.

Bich and moan all you would like. Some of us have followed this from A to Z. The Mayor only wanted a 1% increase. This is how bogus a sewer rate hike is. NEXT????

In the trenches of the Sewers, only then will we say "TOLD YOU SO".

We can not help citizens people are lieing to you. We can only tell you they are.

SEWER MANIA

The difference between watchdogs and neighborhood ass. is one fights for all and neighborhoods have their hands out and expect something for nothing. Need a new patio? Dial 1-800 I can help you get reelected.

You must be talking about Randy's and Roger's blogs.

I bet they appreciate the compliment.

Well, its certainly evident that Shirley posted she would be away for a few days, huh?

I am willing to pitch in and buy the watchdogs a box of milk bones if that will help to satisfy their taste for blood.

Anonymous said...

Are you saying CFA is a citizens watchdog and is fighting for all the neighborhoods? Great! All neighborhoods benefit from police, fire, jobs, code enforcement. Thank you CFA for fighting to make sure our police and fire are well equipped, the city has more code enforcement offices, and that the sewers get fixed so that move businesses want to relocate here.

That is what you are talking about, right?

Oh, maybe I misinterpreted.

Hatemongers, that all you are. Wait until we take the EDIT and TIF'S for our sewers.

Hey Chris OBAMACARE will take your job and put your poor disadvantaged people homeless under the bridge. Keep your milk bones you might need them.

Your sentiment is noted, however, you are sadly mistaken.

FQHC's (look it up if you need to, I will wait), if a national healthcare system is created will play an intregal role in the system.

We are all ready a part of the evil system of socialized medicine in this country, as we also readily accept all forms of medicaid as well as medicare and medicare suppliments.

My job is very secure, and that is partially due to strategic planning, and working in conjunction with the fine men and women in HRSA (again, look it up if you need to).

In so far as my "disatvantaged" being put homeless under the bridge, that is a scare tactic that has been reverberated by the limbaughites across the country.

Our clients, medicaid?medicare dependant, as well as medically uninsured/underinsured are people just like you, and just like me. Sans affordable health coverage.

As far as saving milk bones, I honestly have no clue what you are referring to on that one, or how it relates to me.

But to be perfectly honest with you, if my job WERE to disappear because everyone had access to comprehensive, affordable healthcare, regardless of their ability to pay, then that would make me a very happy person, and I would move from being an administrator at a non-profit FQHC, into the for profit sector, probably double my salary, or do something carzy like open my long dreamt of photography shop downtown near the hopefully completely Plaza and Levee.

Thanks for your concern and waring of my impending career doom, but that base was all ready covered about 5 years ago.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

G. Coyle said it best: You guts can really act like a bunch of thugs politically. Threaten to contact her personally, don't answer her questions, ask where she lives and her ohine number and how to contact her. It's frankly bullying and intimidation. It's a penis issue. They hate women and any strong woman makes them weak due to a lack of knowledge, I thought you guys were smarter than that...
This is why the little people laugh at Roger and them. They can't debate sewer issues or nothing else because even England doesn't understand. You're just now getting what they are GINA?
Hat's off to your statement. Even "them people" eat their own if they don't agree. Watch your back!

"Your a jack of all trades and a master of nothing"

First that would be YOU'RE a jack of all trades...

Secondly, no, actually I am not. I excel at few things (nature photography, tree hugging dirt worshiping nature stuff, and my current occupation), have a good understanding of a lot of things, and have no clue on even more things.

What separates myself from you however, is I am willing to stand up for what I say, admit when I am wrong, but alas, that is an ailment which you will never be able to rise above due to a deathly allergy to personal accountability.

Thanks for the wonderful conversation and I hope you enjoyed the nice weather today.

By the way, can anyone tell me if the city of New Albany has to pay for the electric used in the street lights? LED street lights are out, and use 1/4 of the energy with the same light output as standard ones.

Thank you, I honestly respect that, and will try to do better.(And I mean that)

I am just very tired of getting raked through the coals if I say something, or raked through the coals if I say nothing.

(I do think 6:42's comments were uncalled for)

Unfortunately, one of the "bad" things I got from my father was the inability to not defend myself when I get knocked around. Probably not the maturest thing in the world, but I will do my best to work on it.

6:42 wrong again. She doesn't have a jealous bone in her body unlike you that attack her. You would know that if you knew her.
