If you knew me you would know that I have been talking about doing something to improve the appearance of NA for a long time. So when an opportunity comes up I participate.

I believe that if you "talk the talk you should walk the walk".

This is not a political ploy, it's just the right thing to do.

Good reminder, Shirley. Thanks.

Good for you Shirley. A refreshing change! I've never seen either the 1st District or 3rd District councilmen at these downtown cleanups. It would be nice to see a candidate pitching in.

Shirley, which district are you running in? Are you definitely running?

As far as I know I will be running for city council at large next year. Thank you for your support.

shirley baird said...

I want to reinstate that my participation in the clean ups are not because I plan to run for office. This is something that I have preached for years and I want to be a part of it.

So win or lose in 2011 I'll be helping to keep NA beautiful.

4:57 maybe you did not attend as my councilman Price has been there at several clean ups and you were not. How about the Tribune shooting photos of England, dirty, sweating and not wearing gloves for once. aiandyrsd od using these clean ups as a photo op.

nice try baird we all know you are a phony

Anonymous said...

Knock your self out cleaning up downtown. When the Tribune shoots photo's of a certain Bank Street person cleaning up and I don't mean in front of his bar, I'll consider helping.

I'm with you Shirley. Id you can talk the talk then walk the walk. One questions. Does that apply to Mator England too? Tick tock, tick tock.

oops: If and mayor. My hands are saore from planting flowers and cleaning up downtown.

Shameful, Shirley posts something to let people know there is an opportunity to help spruce up the city, and she gets bashed for being a phoney, and it gets turned into a thread of insulting people.

Anonymous said...

I don't care if they were just going it for the photo op. I've never seen Price or Coffey at a neighborhood cleanup. Helping is helping, even if you're doing it for a selfish reason, yet Coffey and Price aren't helping for any reason.

NO ONE CARES HOW MANY DAYS ITS BEEN SINCE AN ARREST! HOW MANY YEARS HAS IT BEEN SINCE DENHART AND CFA HAS SAID THEY HAVE EVIDENCE TO HAVE MAYOR ARRESTED? NOT DAYS, YEARS! WHAT A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITICAL ASSES.

11:54 here you go again and you still don't have your facts right.

Anonymous said...

Oh, my, this man is a Nut Job!

Looks like 11:34 is full of hate and spreading anger. Maybe it's because he knows he's about to lose England snd the progressives want to go out with a bang.

These progressives will continue to smear Mrs. Drnhart with taunts of "lies" and "attacks" because that is all they have left.

Like the progressives Nazis that they are, remember, "all a pickpocket sees is pockets" and Lord knows they have got enough of our money; Isn't that correct Mayor England?

Does anyone care what 11:34 has to say? Does anyone even read NAC or drink his swill?

This is just proof that progressives cannibalize their own and use others and wannabes to get their way.

Anonymous said...

@3:16PM we've heard your personal attacks before. it's just plain boring now.

Christopher D said...

From helping to pick up trash, pull weeds and plant flowers to consipiracy theories about progressives attempting to destroy the very fabric of freedoms. How do these threads, no matter what the topic end up this way? And what does that say about "us"?

Anonymous said...

Chris, I hope she keeps up the Nazi, fascists talk. 99% of people in New Albany can tell the difference. They can see when people are working hard to help this city. They know the truth. The more she rails against people who are working hard to beautify this city, improve the city, make investments in the city, the more she sounds like someone who doesn't know what she's talking about.

@3:04. Does the city need to raise taxes to pay for additional detectives? Is that what you are upset about, that we cannot afford more detectives?

Christopher D. and other anonymous bloggers, did you attend the DNA clean up downtown Saturday? Was the mayor, deputy mayor and all DNA members also cleaning up? So the bottom line here is they want your business (money) and they want others to do the work.

I had an excuse, I was working overtime to pay my higher sewer bill and put food on the table for my wife and three kids.

Christopher D said...

"So the bottom line here is they want your business (money) and they want others to do the work."

Generally, in one way or another it is "us" doing the work anyway. We are either doing the work ourselves (citizens) as a volunteer force, or we are paying city workers to do it, or we are paying contracted workers to do it.

Would you rather us pay precious "rate payers" money to have a big clean up, or would you rather have a group of people volunteer to do it, and in the process add a little money to the local economy by having lunch and drinks at locally owned and operated establishments? Of course the third choice is no one do anything and let the litter build up, the weeds take over, etc.

(for the record, I was not there either, I had a prior commitment that I agreed to long before the announcement of this event was made)

But apparently you have time to blog.

Yes, I attended the clean up and I work and I support a family too. When your community is important, you make time.

We all know England can not stand PACs. Mildred Messer had a PAC (God rest her soul) and served on the County Council too. No one knew who was in that PAC either. No one knew except Mrs. Messer.

Good luck find out who citizens are belonging to this PAC.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, Mildred Wilson. So so sorry.

Anonymous said...

We all know England can not stand PACs.

Um, no. I don't know that England cannot stand PACs. I don't think he cares.

Anonymous said...

To the person that worked overtime so they could pay for the high sewer bill and put food on the table for the family.

Here is a suggestion...stop paying for internet. Take your children to the library if they need it for school work. Cut back on your cable options and take your them to community events to learn how to be a good citizen.

Rather then complain be proactive and teach your children a better way.

England doesn't like PAC's that are made up and put illegal signs everywhere.

The only person who should care whether or not there's an arrest is the man who was threatened. That councilman who was threatened is the only citizen who should be upset. No one else is affected by this and Mayor England didn't promise any individual there would be an arrest. Besides, Mayors don't have the authority to arrest people. Last I checked, England's not a police officer.

I support wheel-chair ramps so the city can comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, even if FOS ask "What the Hell's This For?"

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't FOS care about people in wheelchairs?

Anonymous said...

Mr. 4:20 maybe you were not at the April 15,2010 council meeting. I was and I also heard and have the council meeting on tape. So let's see if Doug follows thru with his threats. It's time for England to put up or shut up and resign.

Anonymous said...

If England is wanting and claiming we need $300,000 for mandated handicap ramps, why not let him pay back the last 10 years of illegal handicap parking tickets the city has collected?

Besides, ADA does not require all sidewalks in New Albany to have handicap parking ramps, who is he kidding!?!

Just another England SCAM....

Anonymous said...

4:21 you don't support handicap ramps. Who are you kidding.

Anonymous said...

Proof?

Any proof at all?

A tiny, tiny bit of proof?

Anything?

Are you the councilman who was threatened? If not then why do you give a hoot? I guess you're just someone who likes meddling in other people's business.

Anonymous said...

Really? Anonymous, someone who has never met me, can read my mind and tell whether I support ADA ramps? Remarkable person. She should perform shows in Vegas magically pulling the correct card out of a deck.

Anonymous said...

This is NOT for ALL sidewalks in New Albany, get your facts straight.

Anonymous said...

If England is wanting and claiming we need $300,000 for mandated handicap ramps.....

You are correct. They are MANDATED ramps. Do you have a better idea on how to pay for them? If you oppose using tax money, maybe you could hold a bake sale for the city. I like banana-bran, thank you.

Please consider reading the department of justice ADA title III regulation 28 CFR Part 36 Sec.36.304(a) Removal of barriers.

Though, technically, it may not be a fully legal requirement to install 1:12 minimum rise ramps for sidewalks if those sidewalks are not being replaced or significantly repaired, it is in the best interest of the community to do so.

A sidewalk being grandfathered from teh 1994 ADA standards may well not protect the city (and thusly its tax payers) from lawsuits brought about due to inaccessabilities.

I hardly think this is a scam on behalf of the mayors office.

I had recently hit a huge snag simply repairing a birck and mortor porch and steps aat on of our facilities, that has a ramp present (currently 1:8) since we are making "major" repairs to the "structure" we are required to update the ramp to a minimum of 1:12 rise.

I see this not only as an insurance policy against potential lawsuits from disabled persons, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, I see this as a measure to ensure that the maximum amount of our city is fairly accessable to persons in this city who have disabilities.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Chris, so what if we get sued next year? Don't forget, we're pennywise, pound foolish. We don't look to the future. We just want lower taxes TODAY! TODAY! TODAY! I'm going to be dead in a couple years anyhow and I don't have any children. Screw the rest of you young progressives!

Ha Ha Ha Ha (cough..) Ha Ha!

Thanks for avoiding the question about why YOU should care since you're not the one who was threatened with murder and arson.

There were accusations made at a public meeting against a citizen of this community followed with the threat of arrest and criminal confinement of this person. If the allegations are true then it should be followed through. If it is not followed through or true then the statement should never been allowed to occur.

Was anyone person specifically named (like you do on here)? AND SHOULD THE SAME RULE APPLY TO YOU?
