ANNEXATION MEETING 6/29/10

The council approved the Resolution to proceed with the process of annexation.

There were several issues but the summary is this:

  • The 219 acres contain mainly commercial property and very few residents. This makes it easier to annex since there is no need for an annexation committee to oversee the funds received.
  • CM Messer said the police will not be overburdened since the "crime" will mainly consist of parking violations and speeders, and a few shoplifters.
  • The Grantline Rd. firestation will be the main source of fire protection with the Twin Oaks station being the backup.
  • Northside Christian Church was not annexed because churches are tax exempt and will generate limited revenue plus there was concern about the number of people who would be included in the annexation.
  • The $700,000 gained by the city will not be a loss to the county because the property taxes are based on value. The taxes are layered in such a way that the county will still receive it's share and the city will receive the rest.

I am sorry about this watered down report but my computer has a virus and I lost everything I posted last night. I cannot even write the article on Word and copy and paste, tried that, because the virus has affected everything.

Hopefully this can be repaired and I'll be back to normal soon.

Thanks for your understanding and please check the "Tribune" for a real report.

Where was the mayor at the time of the meeting? Studio's.

whether annexation is or is not a good idea does not depend on whether or not the mayor is sitting in the room.

Latest confusion from FOS:

Although we may or may not agree with our Government Officials from Barack Hussein Obama to Doug England, isn't it good to know that we can express ourselves openly without fearing for our liberty or even our safety.

Funny. I never knew expressing yourself "openly" meant anonymously pretending you were a professor when you are not.

Dear FOS, I don't care if crime is down 2% last year. Hire more police, train them better and crime will go down far more. Just because crime is down 2 or 3% in one year doesn't mean that crime isn't a big problem. Get a clue!

Maybe you need new glasses. It's been down for the last 3-4 years.
You want them, you pay for them, and not us.
I say it's time to clean house downtown.

when you cut police crime will go back up. erika/price/coffey wants to cut police to lower levels we had when crime was higher.

What kind of uninformed idiotic fool would actually advocate cutting police because reported crime is down by 2%? That has got to be one of the most outragiously stupid things ever said about new albany politics in a very long time. Which reportable crimes were down? property crimes? petty theft? Seems funny I recall a murder suicide, child rape and molestations, mobile meth labs, high speed chases, armed robbery all in the local news as of late. And because a piece of paper says there has been a decrease of 2% big giant percent that is a sign to give FOS the all mighty green light to declare its time to "clean house"? Hey, Genius, what about the other *98%* of crime that did not reduce?
