WHAT DO YOU SAY?

HAPPY 2010 NEW ALBANY

It is a new year and a new decade. I thought about making predictions as others have but I'm no fortune teller. If I could tell the future, well, let's just say my bank account would look a lot better.

Readers, if anyone wants to make predictions or discuss 2009 please do so. Should be an interesting "conversation".

Please see Daniel Suddeath's column in today's Tribune.

He quotes a certain blogger whom you might recognize.

Seriously, it is an excellent article. Thanks Daniel.

Everyone read well in the paper today. I found interesting the fact we have a new group in town called The New Urbanists.

I still feel you have to have an infrastructure in place in order for growth to continue. 2 me, major problem creating growth. Also, when are the civil fines from the EPA FINALLY going to result in CRIMINAL actions? After all the monies spent in this town, our sewers should literally be lined in gold.

I'll place that as my number on agenda for the year and worry about the front burners rather than the back burners.

Thanks for the inputs in the paper; gives pause to wonder.

Ghostwriter!

P.S. Make that mistake as "number one uno thing on my agenda this year". Sorry.

Roger Baylor of NA Confidential and Shirley Baird of The Voice of the People represent two of the most popular blogs, though their styles are definitely different.

You have got to be kidding? This again shows total bias.

I'm still laughing!

I'm with you anonymous 6:56. I've never read nothing here about EPA investigating our city. Freedom Of Speech only deals with EPA, DLGF facts and documents, the important issues that affect each one of us.

Should I vomit now or later? What a waste of ink and money for todays Tribune.

Freedom of Speech only deals in lies and manipulations of pseudo-facts

This is the ultimate mark if ignorance.

New Urbanism has been around for two decades. Educate yourself at by reading about it.

Why didn't Daniel interview Professor Erik?

Too bad for fake professors that people who actually know something about law and regulations and government know that FOS is full of sh*t.

Sorry, wishing and hoping and praying that you're relevant doesn't make it so.

Yeah, there are people who read FOS and believe that crap, but they're the least knowledgeable, educated and logical people in town. People who actually UNDERSTAND stuff know FOS is nothing but gibberish.

Too bad the fake professor author doesn't understand how much she doesn't understand.

Maybe if she were a read professor she's get it.

I'm going to start making up crazy stuff about the Mayor and 'Progressives.' Apparently that's the only way I can fit on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Isn't that the truth, lol!

Do not play any of us for stupid.

There are places for facts and places for wishes. Reality vs. Fantasy for most of the common people(s) representing NA.

Again, infrastructure. THE NUMBER UNO FUND (SEWERS) INVOLVING SIMPLY FOLLOWING THE MONIES AND GETTING YOUR BUTTES OUT THERE AND SEE WHAT IS GOING ON. The books are in the library, if you can understand them.

Please do not trying to distract from Shirley's blog by getting into a fight over FOS. To each his own and surely all three have a right to exist. If you don't like it, point the mouse somewhere else.
If you choose to read it, any of them, then quit b*ing.

BTW, that would be called Freedom of Speech, lol. Ironic, to say the least.

Thanks for a space to spout Shirley. Have a great New Year.

Here is a news flash - bad news. B&B Bar is on fire with three departments fighting it, NA, Clarksville & Jeff. 15th & Culbertson; the two elderly gentlemen living upstairs were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

I would imagine they are trying to keep the whole block from going up. Thoughts and prayers go out. (This use to be Stan's Bar.)

Anonymous said...

FOS will post something shortly about how our firefighters are useless and we should cut all their salaries.

shirley baird said...

I heard about B&B, but I didn't know that there were residents upstairs.

Will keep these gentlemen in my prayers.

I don't recall FOS calling firefighters useless.

Anonymous said...

Don't mind the haters Shirley, LOL. They don't care about people, obviously.

Anonymous said...

I don't care about people. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE having criminals in my neighborhood. LOL

Anonymous said...

Can I care about the people in my neighborhood while at the same time trying to get one or two neighbors to leave? Answer: Yes!

I used to have a convicted pedophile down the street. Since there are a lot of families on the street with small kids, is it "obvious" that I don't care about people when I say the pedophile should move? Answer: NO. It would be uncaring of me to allow the pedophile to prey upon my other neighbor's children without saying anything.

The same goes if a prostitute lives in the neighborhood (remember "Candy" at E. Main and 7th?)

The same goes for neighborhood drug dealers. They do NOT help make the neighborhood a better place.

Sometimes you have to get rid of a few bad apples to save the bunch.

Anonymous said...

quit complaining about the pedophile and drug dealers...just move.

Anonymous said...

The drug dealers and the pedophiles are in a lot of people's crosshairs. Good people out number them 100 to 1. They better be very very careful.

Anonymous said...

i'm surprised the drug dealers still show their faces. how many people bought drugs from them and then sold them to children? time to clean house.

Anonymous said...

disgusting maggots contaminate our neighborhoods.

Christopher D said...

As far as registered sex offenders, if they are registered, and they are doing what they are supposed to do, then there is not much you can do about it.

Keep in mind a person on the sex offender registry may have been placed on it for something as simple as smacking a waitress on the butt after too many drinks.

The best answer to that problem, dont watch the sex offender, watch the kids, and know where your kids are at all times.

Anonymous said...

chrissy had the best solution again. go chrissy D!

Anonymous said...

I guess I should just quit my job so I can watch my kids 24 hours a day. I'll just make sure they never go play with friends or ride their bikes (kids don't need exercise, do they).

Forgive me for having an expectation that my neighborhood should be a safe place. How unreasonable of me. Of course convicted criminals should get their way.

Hell, I should just get my kids to start doing drugs now. At least I'll know which drugs they're doing.

What B.S. If I see a pedophile near my kids, someone's going to be beat if not worse. Same goes for drug dealers. First it's pot, then it's Meth. If I see one of those f*ckers so much as smile at my kids I'm getting a baseball bat and a couple buddies.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you annon 4:19 with that BS from Christopher D!

Those drug dealers and pedophiles are probaly also renters living in an absentee slumlords rental house. We live in and own our property and we should do what we have to do to protect our property and families from these societal parasites.

I don't tolerate them and do not have a problem speaking my mind to them. You can't let them think they are in control.

PS...how is Christopher D watching his kids if he is writing BS on here all the time?

Anonymous said...

some rent from slumlords. some own a house on main.

Anonymous said...

most in new albany rent.

Anonymous said...

1/2 of the people in NA own their homes. it is not all rental.

Anonymous said...

1/2 of it is rental but is still way too much.

Christopher D said...

I watch my one child just fine, and glad to report she is doing just fine.

Oh yeah, I also know where she is, sho she is with, when she is where, and she knows what to do if some one tries anything on her, and it has all ready potentially worked twice in her life.

I am not saying its all peaches and cream to have a sex offender near you. (we have 3 registered in our area), But we educate our kids, and everyone out here helps keep an eye on each others kids, and guess what, no problems.

As far as drug dealers, they are out of our neighborhood, why, we did what you're supposed to do and it didnt invlove beating anyones ass. (personally, there would be no ass beating if someone tried to hurt my daughter, they would be shot dead in the street)

But drug dealers and sex offenders arent the only problems, there also POS's who make false reports about people, of course my littel fan on here would know all about that.

Anonymous said...

my oh my the bs is getting deep. Christopher is so up in himself that he thinks he has a fan.

shirley baird said...

As badly as I hate pedophiles I have to agree with Chris on this one. If they are registered we at least know where they are, it's the ones who are not registered or not yet caught that we have to worry about.

Same goes for drug dealers. They are everywhere, even in neighborhoods we think are safe. It is harder to raise a child now than it has ever been.

Anonymous said...

ah, so shirley is the fan.

Anonymous said...

oh i can guaranty you that if a pedophile and a drug dealer moved into silver hills you wouldn't hear the end of it until they were gone.

i'm taking as much pride in my neighborhood as they do. if i see a pedophile or a drug dealer i'm going to take action.

equally as bad as the neighbors who say we shouldn't do anything. i have no time for people with low standards who are going to allow the neighborhood to go to pot or to allow the neighborhood to be a dumping ground for criminals.

Anonymous said...

New Albany is Portland's dumping ground for drug dealers and criminals. NA even encourages them to come live here by providing them with the largest selection of Section 8 and public housing in So.IN.

Anonymous said...

that's a total misunderstanding of public housing. New Albany Housing Authority is the ONLY landlord in town that that will kick you out for dealing or using drugs. they send out a banned list every month. most common way of getting on it is drugs. steve price doesn't do that for his tenants. the drug dealers are renting from people like stevie.

Anonymous said...

besides, it aint like portland doesn't have people on section 8.

Anonymous said...

misunderstanding on public housing? are you on drugs?

i'm going by what our police say. ask them. they will tell you that there is more drug activity in the public housing project's than anywhere else in na and it is a drain on their manpower and resources.

yea,the housing authority will will kick drug dealer out but only after they have been arrested and convicted. they can't kick them out for alleged drug dealing. and again ask the police, they will tell you how hard it is for them to contol the drug activity occuring at the public housing.

if you want to fix the drug problem, fix the slumlord problem.

Anonymous said...

if you're a convicted drug dealer and you're in new albany you got a big bullseye on your back. people aren't going to put up with it any more!

Christopher D said...

Do a little research, if you find information regarding a REGISTERED sex offender, and you use htat information obtained from the database to harrass, intimidate, or "mistreat" a legally registered, compliant sex/violent offender on the registry, you can actually be charged with a criminal offense.

Do I want them in my neighborhood, hell no, make that HELL NO.

In order to set a good example for my child do I have to follow the law, yes, I do. Not that I like it that much, but sometimes doing the right thing is much harder than simply forming a lynch mob and running them out of the hood.

As far as a fan club, I honestly dont give a crap whether I do or not.

Harrasment, attempted intimidation didnt change anything in the 700 block did it, no.

Following the laws, and making sure that people knew they were being watched and illegal/illicit activity being photographed got the drug dealers and thugs out of here.

Anonymous said...

since it was police representatives who publicly made the comment about where the highest drug trafficking problems are in na, i guess you considering them idiots also and part of the problem. bet it is real difficult for you to comprehend why they are having to spend so much time at the housing projects when the real drug problem according to you is caused by steve price and his properties.

i sense someone wanted so badly to be on the police force but just couldn't make the cut.

section 8 and public housing is under the control of the housing authority. if someone who gets section 8 is convicted of dealing drugs they lose there section 8. it doesn't occur just for people in public housing.

so if steve price has section 8 tenants and they get convicted of selling drugs then they lose their section 8. If they don't lose it then that is a result of the housing authority not doing their job.

Anonymous said...

anon 11:33 for christ sake educate yourself. try contacting Bob Lane he is the Director of the Housing Authority, he can help you become more informed.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:39... You are so right! I had to deal with a drug dealer in a rental home in my neighborhood. They received section 8 and once they were arrested I contacted the Housing Authority and the tenant lost their section 8. Some of these people don't really care they just want to argue and bash people. Pretty sad.

I don't like in the west end but i can tell what some of their problems are by driving by. houses falling down...junk in front yards. that kind of environment makes vandals and druggies thing that it's OK because no one's watching, and they're usually right.

if people in the west end took pride in their OWN neighborhood, they would see fewer problems. i guaranty you that if a dozen west end residents showed up at every council meeting and spoke against LACK OF CODE ENFORCEMENT on the west end, it wouldn't be too long before things started moving in the right direction over there. you'd see code inspectors showing up and fining slum lords. but so far west end residents aren't doing this. they either just whine or, more likely, they don't give a damn.

coffey's got a big mouth, why isn't he yelling about constant code violations by slumlords on the west end?

Anonymous said...

if we had 100 fewer slum units and replaced them with 100 more section 8 units, you would see a drop in crime. that's because someone actually watches section 8 tenants. no one watches the slumlord tenants.

Anonymous said...

steve price COULD accept section 8 if he wanted to, but he'd first have to get his units up to code.

Anonymous said...

you see slum lord houses falling down. section 8 won't pay the rent if the house isn't up to code. replace a few slumlords with section 8 landlords and you'll see fewer houses in town that look like they're falling down.

Anonymous said...

rental properties are seldom inspected prior to a section 8 tenant moving in. they should be inspected everytime there is a new tenant. that is not being done here in na. if these properties were actually inspected by the housing authority and required to be brought up to code prior to allowing a section 8 tenant to move in then this would help the city out tremendously.

Anonymous said...

Fining slumlord for code violation? Now that a novel idea. Probably would help if it were actually done!

Anonymous said...

i think progressives and 'little people' can agree on one thing:

fining slumlords is a better way of raising revenue than increasing taxes/fees.

Anonymous said...

concerning the B@B, that is one way to clean up a neighborhood.
hope everyone is o.k.

3:03 I was told the City of New Albany is responsible for the maintance and to make sure all hydrants are working by our local Firefighters. That makes it another lawsuit and I encourage B&B to sue.

Iamhoosier said...

Anyone see the article about Indianapolis fighting frozen hydrants? Louisville, same thing.
I'm sure a google search would find several such instances.

I find the city lacking in many areas but blaming the city for it being well below freezing? C'mon.

Christopher D said...

encouraging a business to sue the city because temps have been below freezing long enough to obstruct a metal fixture outdoors with non-moving water in it? Really?

Also how can the city be responsible for a fixture that is maintained, and supplied by Indiana-American Water company?

I think the council and city attorney should act fast to stop any future possible lawsuits and draft an ordinance banning inclement weather.

That makes it another lawsuit and I encourage B&B to sue.

Businesses have tried lawsuits like that before and not one. The fire department's duty is to the public at large, but to individual citizens, so the courts have ruled.

I don't like how people who claim they want to help New Albany are encouraging people to file frivolous lawsuits against the city.

Anonymous said...

The CITY is responsible for the fire hydrants now that billing has been brought back in house, not Indiana-American.

Anonymous said...

good thing you're not a lawyer.

by the way, billing is different from maintenance which is different still from tort liability.

Christopher D said...

Please, for the sake of all humanity, post a link to a case that cites a cities responsibility to keep water from freezing when it 10 to 15 degrees below freezing and had been that way for 4 days prior to the incident!

I mean I would love to see where WE (yes thats right WE, we pay for the lawsuits, each one of us), are financially responsible for the physical characteristics of a natural occurrance when water is subject to temperatures below freezing. (thats why its called below freezing!)

Anonymous said...

excuse me but the city does not bill for water it is sewage and garbage water bill still comes from the utility
