2010 OH, WHAT A YEAR IT WAS

As 2010 comes to a close I have been doing a little reminiscing.  It was a good year for some and a bad year for many.  Our economy is still in a mess, we are fighting two wars and may even be involved  in a third one soon if North Korea has it''s way.

And on the local scene we have had a tough year too.  I went back and checked out old articles and have listed the  topics in sort of a chronological order.  I'll keep my comments to a minimum but invite everyone to add their own.

  • Flooding was a major problem for residents in several ares of town.  The sewers and storm drains were cleaned out and this seemed to have helped.
  • Sewer rate increases:  We didn't want this to happen but it passed anyway.
  • Delinquent sewer bills. Some progress has been made but we still have a long way to go.
  • Annexation.  Put off another year.
  • LOIT tax. Another unpopular topic.
  • Historic Preservation, the commission was saved.  But we will always have controversy.
  • Grant for the S. Ellen Jones/Midtown neighborhood.  Dilapidated homes are being repaired or torn down and more local residents are being employed to help.
  • Combine the 911 city and county call centers.
  • P.O.P. more concentrated police presence in various areas of town.  Seems to be working, especially with the 20 arrests on the apartment complex on Green Valley Rd.
  • Globe Mechanical expanding and adding 40 jobs.
  • The election.
  • Bridge tolls.  Why can't they just build the east end bridge and see what happens?
  • New Albany's Budget.
Here's hoping that 2011 finds everyone working and living in safe warm homes with plenty of food.  I know that is not possible but let's see how close we can come.

        HAPPY NEW YEAR

Sounds like we had a PACKED year! Some of it good, some not good. Thanks for listing all that, Shirley. It's good to reflect...

Happy New Year, New Albany! May the year 2011 be the year of onward and upward, and may our needs be met and our questions be answered in the most satisfactory manner. We have a lot going for us and 2011 promises to be another busy year.

I wish you the best in 2011, Shirley!

AMEN to that.

School closings are high up on the list, too.

Over at the kitchen table it seems that they do not like it when you post something bad about Ed Clere even when it is the truth.

They were ranting about the sewer board having to forgive Georgetown's debt but they have selective memory.

I posted a comment reminding them that it was the Ed Clere plan to obtain the state loan that led to having to forgive the debt.

Here is the Tribune article that explains it.

They deleted my comment.

If this is how they think things will improve around here they are sadly mistaken. They make unsubstantiated claims about people and then delete comments they don't like.

So, what's your point, Stupid People? You posted the article. Obviously, Ed Clere did his part and, frankly, he did very well. It's up to local officials to handle their money correctly and, here in New Albany, they're literally ROBBING the taxpayer. I assume, Stupid People, that you're trying to dump THAT on CLERE?

Shame, shame, shame on you.

That guy's busted his butt trying to help in so many ways and you have to LOOK HARD to create some sort of blame story to pin on him.

You're the same sort that likes to blame Mitch Daniels for New Albany's state of affairs, another lame blame game.

Take an honest look at the WHOLE picture. Look without looking to lay blame at anyone's door. THEN, you'll see what's what around here.

Frankly, if we lose people like Clere because a certain group is trying to nail him on every issue they can think of, then we all lose.

RE: Stupid People (person)..do you have a problem with the plan that Clere was able to workout for the city?

Thanks for the link reminding us of what great, good thing Ed Clere did for the people of Floyd County (Georgetown and New Albany)!

Once again, someone who is unreasonably vindictive and angry had to reach FAAAAAAAAARRRRR to try to jab the one guy who's actually fighting for the common people.

Wow.

And, there was no deletion of a comment of any kind about Ed Clere and the sewer board monies owed from Georgetown. It sounds good but never happened. The Blog Administrator from the Kitchen Table Issues.

Stupid people never said it was a bad deal. Stupid people was just pointing out the hypocrisy of that blog, they were pointing fingers at England, Gibson and Carl for forgiving the penalty while it was the Clere plan that led to it.

I saw that post on kitchen table early New Years morning, by afternoon it was deleted.

No surprise there. I checked out Stupid People's blog-this can't be any kind of serious person. Really, it's a shame that people get on blogs and make things completely up just to throw mud at people.

Didn't appreciate his comment against Clere, and I didn't appreciate his comment against another legitimate and very good blog, Kitchen Table. His comment was not done in a spirit of trying to get along.

"Shame, shame, shame" is right.

Tonight is our first city council meeting for the year. I'll be posting a report although the agenda is pretty blank except for voting for Pres. & VP and of course appointments to the various boards.

Should be a short meeting.

It probably isn't "stupid people's" own blog.

It's obviously a blog that "stupid people" was directing you to visit. In other words, it was a joke ... about marijuana ... kitchen table, dope ... get it?

Juvenile, but effective.

My, my, we are touchy.....

When Stupid People tried to discredit a blog that does not engage in "censorship" as Baylor followers are sure to assert, then it was important to look up his links.

Was it effective? An irresponsible link by a commenter to a blog about marijuana?

No. It was just juvenile.

And a belated Happy New Year to you from a long way from New Albany!
